Unai Emery's Aston Villa could upset David Moyes' Everton return

- Everton have not scored in eight of their last 10 league games
- Villa head for Goodison on the back of 2-1 wins over Leicester and West Ham
- Recommended bet:
Aston Villa to win

Everton welcome David Moyes back to Goodison Park, with Toffees' fans praying a change of manager brings an upturn of fortune.

But Moyes faces a baptism of fire at home to Champions League side Aston Villa, who have won six of their last nine matches.

Team news

Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski and Abdoulaye Doucoure are among those set for recalls after being rested for Everton's 2-0 FA Cup win against Peterborough.

Moyes will be hoping to have Dominic Calvert-Lewin available with Armando Broja out and Beto struggling for goals.

Seamus Coleman, James Garner and Dwight McNeil are unlikely to be involved.

Emi Martinez is expected to be fit to line up in goal for Villa, who are set to be without Pau Torres, Diego Carlos, John McGinn and Ross Barkley.

Unai Emery could recall Jhon Duran after suspension to lead the line ahead of Ollie Watkins.

The stats

Everton have scored 15 goals in the Premier League this season – only Southampton (12) have scored fewer.

No team has scored fewer goals from open play than Everton (7).

The Toffees have failed to find the net in eight of their last 10 league games.

They are winless in their last 11 Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa (D3 L8).

Villa have won six of their last nine matches in all competitions. However, they have lost each of their last five away games in the Premier League.

Prediction

David Moyes will be looking to ignite Everton's campaign

Moyes is back at Goodison Park and hoping to get off to a winning start – but Villa should be good enough to ruin the Scot's homecoming.

Villa's five-match away losing streak in the Premier League might set alarm bells ringing but four of those were at top-five clubs and the fifth was away to Tottenham. All five opponents were also in better form than relegation-threatened Everton.

And the flip side to the statistic is that Villa have won six of their last nine overall, including at Bundesliga powers Leipzig in the Champions League, so they clearly do know how to win on the road.

Last Friday, they weathered an early FA Cup storm from West Ham, who were also under new management in the shape of Graham Potter.

And they should expect a similarly passionate effort from an Everton group desperate to impress their new head coach.

But the Merseysiders have failed to score in eight of their last 10 matches, a desperate level of impotence that leaves them exposed.
