Danny Mayor scored his first league double since September 2018 as Fleetwood won their first away game of the season with a 3-2 victory at managerless Carlisle.

It was gripping contest between the two sides, who were both relegated from Sky Bet League One last season, at Brunton Park.

Mayor opened the scoring in the 10th minute as he stepped past a defender and calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Ronan Coughlan completed a seven-minute assault as he connected with Mackenzie Hunt’s ball and blasted into the top corner.

The hosts were gifted a lifeline to halve the deficit on the stroke of half-time as Jordan Jones was felled in the box before Charlie Wyke converted his first goal of the season from 12 yards.

Wyke restored parity with his second as he scored under David Harrington from Dylan McGeouch’s through ball seven minutes after the restart.

But Mayor ended any hopes of a famous comeback victory as the bouncing ball fell kindly for him to fire through a sea of bodies with 20 minutes remaining.
