Just three days on from squaring up in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at the Emirates, Crystal Palace and Arsenal do battle again in the Premier League at Selhurst Park hoping to kick off a busy Christmas period on the front foot.

Arsenal edged their way into the last four of the Carabao Cup with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday and they will be determined to reignite their title hopes by following up in South London.

However, Mikel Arteta will be wary of the threat Palace carry and the Eagles have plenty of reason to be optimistic themselves following a five-game unbeaten run in the league.

Oliver Glasner’s side have held Aston Villa, Newcastle and Manchester City and defeated both Ipswich and Brighton in that period, suggesting that they are now on a steep upward curve after a slow start.

That said, the Gunners are unbeaten in nine games in all competitions and are hitting top stride at a perfect part in the season.

Team news

Palace remain without Matheus Franca, Chadi Riad and Adam Wharton while Daniel Munoz is suspended.

Declan Rice remains a doubt for the Gunners after he was withdrawn early in the second half against Everton last Saturday.

Mikel Arteta is still dealing with a number of defensive injuries as Riccardo Calafiori and Oleksandr Zinchenko work their way back to fitness.

Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain long-term absentees for Arsenal.

The stats

Crystal Palace have lost only one of their last eight league games, playing out four draws during that timeframe.

Arsenal are unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions but they have drawn back-to-back Premier League games against Fulham and Everton.

Crystal Palace have lost their last four Premier League meetings with Arsenal.

Arsenal are unbeaten in all nine of their Premier League London derby matches in 2024, winning seven times and drawing twice.

Six of the last eight meetings between these sides have featured three or more goals.

Prediction

These two sides met at the Emirates in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, with Arsenal coming out on top 3-2 in a high-octane encounter, and this could be an entertaining rematch at Selhurst Park.

The Gunners made more first-team changes for that cup clash - star men William Saliba, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard started on the bench - and they may be better prepared to cope with this quick turnaround.

However, the Eagles showed the threat that they carry going forward through Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta at the Emirates and their counter-attacking qualities should ensure that both teams get on the scoresheet again.

Arsenal have been breached in 13 of their last 20 matches in all competitions and are certainly more penetrable defensively this term than last.

But Mikel Arteta has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal and they are unlikely to leave empty-handed, with both teams to score fancied to oblige for an eighth time in Palace’s last 10 matches.
