Jawwaal strikes again

Michael Dods was left celebrating once again as Jawwaal made it back-to-back wins at Doncaster after landing the spoils in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap on Friday.

The six-year-old won on Town Moor only 19 days ago, beating Caspian Prince by a short head. That run clearly took little out of him, with Jawwaal romping to victory under jockey David Probert, who rode Dods' charge for the first time.

Speaking after the win, Probert was delighted with his performance, telling reporters: "We went an even enough gallop and I followed the right horse, and when they split up half a furlong out, he pointed his toe out, so he's obviously got a big engine.

"He loves it here, it suits him, and he's an absolute legend to ride; he gave me a lovely feel."

Euchen Glen powers home at Sandown

There were wild celebrations at Sandown on Friday afternoon as Euchen Glen secured his second major prize of the season in the Davies Insurance Services Gala Stakes.

Connections had already seen him win the Group Three Brigadier Gerard Stakes over the course and distance in May, while he finished fifth in the Wolferton Stakes in June.

Jim Goldie's stable star was considered one of the favourites this week, and despite conceding 12lb to John Leeper, Euchen Glen kept his rivals at bay under jockey Paul Mulrennan.

Speaking about his ride, Mulrennan said: "The race fell in his lap today. Jim's horses this season are flying, and I seem to have struck up quite a good rapport with him.

"I was happy all the way today, but I won't lie, two-and-a-half from home, I looked up, and he did look a long way in front. But as soon as I gave him a squeeze, I knew he'd pick them up."

Connections have confirmed Joseph O'Brien's Pretty Gorgeous will return to action in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket next Friday.

O'Brien's filly ended 2020 as one of the leading juveniles, but she has yet to find her rhythm this season.

She finished seventh in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in May before finishing fifth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

O'Brien says his charge is in good form at home and will return to the track at HQ, where she won the Fillies Mile in October 2020.

Breeders' Cup legend Arazi passes away

1991 Breeders' Cup winner, Arazi, has sadly died at the age of 32, connections have announced.

The Blushing Groom colt produced one of the best performances in Breeders' Cup history 30 years ago when ridden by Pat Valenzuela.

Arazi was nearly 15 lengths off the lead when he made his move in the 1991 race, and he beat Bertrando by five lengths.

His career ended when he was unplaced in the Breeders' Cup Mile, before spells at stud in Britain, America and the USA.

He spent his later years at Stockwell Stud in Melbourne, with Stockwell confirming his death in a statement on Friday morning.
