Cardiff to win

Cardiff were beaten 1-0 at Luton on Wednesday but they have had a productive period, taking 14 points from the last seven games, and will be looking to respond when hosting out-of-form Blackburn in the Welsh capital.

The Bluebirds’ recent revival has been turbo-charged by a series of strong home performances.

Maximum points have been secured from their last four matches at the Cardiff City Stadium, including last Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Norwich, which was sealed by Callum O’Dowda’s injury-time strike.

While Cardiff have moved on from a slow start to the season, Blackburn have struggled to build on a bright beginning.

Rovers were third at the end of September but they dropped to 10th after Wednesday’s 2-0 reverse at home to Stoke which was their third loss on the bounce.

Team news

Aaron Ramsey, Ryotaro Tsunoda, Alex Robertson (muscle strains), Joe Ralls and Kion Etete (both leg) are absent for the home side.

Chris Willock dropped to the bench for Wednesday’s 1-0 loss at Luton and will be pushing for a recall to the starting XI.

Blackburn will be without Tyrhys Dolan, who must serve a one-game ban after collecting five yellow cards.

Zak Gilsenan (muscle strain) and Hayden Carter (knee) remain unavailable and Scott Wharton is sidelined for the rest of the year with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Harry Leonard (shoulder) featured as a midweek substitute and is in contention for more minutes.

The stats

Cardiff have won three of their last four home games without conceding any goals.

The Bluebirds have lost only one of their last seven Championship fixtures.

Blackburn have won on just two of their last 11 trips to Cardiff.

Blackburn’s last five games have featured less than three goals.

Rovers have conceded the first goal in five of their last seven games.

Prediction

Cardiff were not too downhearted after their narrow midweek loss at Luton and they can come up with an immediate response when facing Blackburn in south Wales.

As is often the case, the mid-to-lower part of the Championship table is incredibly congested and there will be no panic from Omar Riza’s Bluebirds, who sit fourth from bottom but are only three points outside the top half.

Riza’s side have taken 10 points since the October international break and were slightly unlucky to lose at Luton after winning the shot count 10-8.

However, they should have a better chance of success against Blackburn, who are going through their worst run of the season.

Rovers were close to the early Championship pace but have been shuffled down to mid-table after three successive defeats.

John Eustace’s side have scored just two goals in their last seven matches and their struggles in attack point towards a negative outcome against Cardiff, who are striving for a fifth successive home win.
