Over 3.5 goals

A home win over Liverpool on Monday would secure a top-four finish in the Premier League for Aston Villa but the Reds will also want to impress in their final away game with Jurgen Klopp as manager.

Team news

Emi Martinez should be in goal for Aston Villa after returning from injury against Olympiakos on Thursday.

Youri Tielemans and Alex Moreno could shake off issues to play, but Nicolo Zaniolo and Morgan Rogers are likely to miss out, while Emi Buendia, Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and Jacob Ramsey are still sidelined.

Liverpool have no new injury worries but forward Diogo Jota, midfielder Thiago Alcantara  and defender Joel Matip remain out of action.

The stats

Aston Villa have won 12 of their 18 Premier League home games this season, losing only three.

Liverpool have lost just three of their 18 league away matches this term.

Villa have lost four of their last six games in all competitions.

The Villans have conceded 11 goals in their last five home games.

Liverpool's last two matches have produced 10 goals.

The Reds are unbeaten in the teams' last seven meetings, winning six.

Prediction

Liverpool are out of the Premier League title race but will want to extend their excellent record against Aston Villa in their final away match with Jurgen Klopp as their manager and that could lead to a high-scoring game at Villa Park on Monday.

Liverpool's top-four finish is already guaranteed and Villa need three points from their final two games to be absolutely certain of theirs.

However, with a tricky trip to in-form Crystal Palace coming up in their final match, Unai Emery's team would love to wrap up fourth place with a win in front of their own fans.

They have been providing their home supporters with plenty of goals, scoring at least twice in their last seven outings at Villa Park. They have netted 18 goals in all in that run but have also conceded 11 goals in their last five home fixtures.

The Reds are no strangers to end-to-end games, beating Tottenham 4-2 last time out after a 2-2 draw at West Ham in their most recent away match.

Goals have been abundant in the teams' recent meetings at Villa Park with the Reds winning 3-1, 2-1 and 4-1 (FA Cup) on their last three visits, while their previous encounter was a notorious 7-2 Villa success in October 2020.

Villa's defence struggled in both legs of their 6-2 aggregate Europa League loss to Olympiakos, while Liverpool gave up two goals after taking a 4-0 lead to Spurs last time out, so the recipe is there for another match featuring over 3.5 goals.
