Kirsty Hanson cannot wait for the new Women's Super League season after completing a permanent switch from Manchester United.

The Scotland international, 25, has been handed a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after impressing on loan last term.

Hanson, who weighed in with eight goals in 28 appearannces in all competitions in 2022-23, said: "I'm delighted and so happy to be back here.

"I came in last season just wanting to enjoy my football. But the belief the staff had in me brought out the best in me.

"I want to continue to grow as a person and a player. That's my aim next season."

Hanson and Co kick off their WSL campaign against her former club in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd at Villa Park on October 1.

And Villa boss Carla Ward is excited to see what the winger will contribute after making such an impression last season.

Speaking to the club's official website, Ward said: "This is a huge one for us and for the fans.

"We all know how important Kirsty was to us last season. The way she integrated herself into the group on and off the pitch made it feel like home for her.

"We're delighted to now welcome her back and call Aston Villa her permanent home.

"Kirsty is an individual who's hungry to keep learning and is always wanting to improve.

"This is an important part of her career and the sky is the limit for her.

"I know I speak on behalf of everyone involved with this football club when I say, 'Welcome home, Kirsty'."

The Villans finished fifth in the WSL last season and will be looking to close the gap on the division's big four — Manchester City, Arsenal, United and reigning champions Chelsea — in 2023-24.
