Gareth Taylor described Alex Greenwood's sending off for time-wasting as a "spoiler" after his nine-player Manchester City side drew with Chelsea.

City were denied an impressive win against the champions when Guro Reiten scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to cancel out Chloe Kelly's long-range opener.

That was after Taylor's side were reduced to 10 players late in the first half when captain Greenwood was controversially deemed to have been time-wasting while lining up to take a free-kick by referee Emily Heaslip, who showed her a second yellow card.

The hosts' numbers were further reduced when Lauren Hemp was dismissed in the 81st minute before the Blues eventually broke through in added time.

Reflecting on the game, City boss Taylor told BBC Sport: "For the endeavour, effort and togetherness we showed, I thought we were quality.

"In the opening exchanges, we were really on the front foot, we scored a brilliant goal.

"And then obviously the bit of a game changer is Alex's red card, which changes everything.

Lauren Hemp's second yellow card saw Gareth Taylor's side reduced to nine players

"It's frustrating, particularly when we seem to have gone from here to here all of a sudden on dishing out those yellow cards.

"It's a difficult one to take because the girls were magnificent in terms of defending the box against some very, very good players.

"Unfortunately at the vital moment we have Alanna [Kennedy] off the pitch. But I'm so proud of the players.

"I was talking to Emma at the end, neither of us enjoy that because it's just a spoiler, it's a bit of a spoiler.

"All we want to see is consistency, because if that's going to happen in a game like today, with those types of yellow cards given out just at the drop of a hat, there needs to be consistency with it."

City have now been shown three red cards in their last two games after Leila Ouahabi was given her marching orders against West Ham last weekend.
