- Andries Gous has scores of 65, 35, 2, 80 and 29 in USA's first five matches
- England have lost five of their last seven T20Is at the Kensington Oval
- Recommended bet: Andries Gous to score a half-century

T20 World Cup holders England started the Super 8 stage with a commanding eight-wicket win over West Indies but Friday's seven-run loss to South Africa slowed their charge towards the semi-finals.

A win over the USA in Sunday's final Super 8 fixture at the Kensington Oval should be enough to take Jos Buttler's men into the last four.

However, they cannot take anything for granted against the tournament co-hosts, who upset Pakistan in the group stage and who would love to derail England's title defence.

Team news

USA captain Monank Patel suffered a shoulder injury after the group win over Pakistan and is unlikely to feature, so Aaron Jones should skipper the side again.

England could name an unchanged team although fast bowlers Mark Wood and Jofra Archer will be assessed, with Chris Jordan on standby if either needs to be rested.

England captain Jos Buttler knows that there is no room for error in a crucial clash with USA in Barbados.

The stats

England have lost five of their last seven T20 internationals at the Kensington Oval in Barbados and have conceded first-wicket stands of 90, 70, six, 44, 94 and 86 in this tournament.

Harry Brook has scored 100 runs off 57 balls in his last two innings for England.

Fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar took six wickets in the USA's T20 World Cup games against Pakistan, India and South Africa.

Publicidad

Andries Gous has scored 65, 35, two, 80 not out and 29 in the USA's first five matches.

The USA conceded 11 sixes in just 10.5 overs in their defeat to the West Indies last time out

Prediction

England were excellent against the West Indies, but their failure to strike with the new ball cost them against South Africa, whose opener Quinton de Kock cracked 65 off 38 balls.

De Kock was the latest opposition opener to punish England's bowlers at this tournament, as Scotland's top two batters shared an unbroken stand of 90 before rain ruined their opening group game.

Australia's Travis Head and David Warner put on 70 in their group victory over England in Bridgetown, the venue for Sunday's clash with the USA.

Even in the impressive win over the West Indies, England failed to take a wicket until their opponents' score had reached 94, so USA opener Andries Gous looks a tempting bet to make a half-century.

Gous smashed 65 in the opening win over Canada and 35 in the shock Super Over victory over Pakistan, the team England beat in the 2022 T20 World Cup final.

The former South Africa Under-19 international scored a brilliant unbeaten 80 against the land of his birth in the first Super 8 game and top-scored with 29 off 16 balls against the Windies, so he could pose a serious threat to England.
