Atalanta will make West Ham misfit Gianluca Scamacca their Rasmus Hojlund replacement.

La Dea lost their Danish talisman to Manchester United in a deal reported to be worth an initial £72million, with both clubs officially confirming the move earlier today.

It leaves the Italians short of a centre forward and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims an agreement is already in place with the Hammers to sign Azzurri international Scamacca.

Having netted 16 Serie A goals for Roma in 2021-22, big things were expected of the 24-year-old following his £30m switch to East London.

But his debut season was plagued by injury and inconsistency, netting just three times in 16 Premier League outings.

Now, Scamacca looks set to head back to his homeland in an attempt to revive a stalling career — with West Ham likely to take a £10m loss on what they initially forked out.

Tensions are said to be high at the London Stadium with boss David Moyes not seeing eye to eye with the club's new technical director Tim Steidten.

Moves for Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, James Ward-Prowse and Conor Gallagher have all been mooted but The Athletic suggest progress has stalled on all fronts.

Scamacca's exit will only make Moyes' squad lighter following the departures of skipper Declan Rice to Arsenal and Manuel Lanzini's return to Argentina with River Plate.
