Tottenham want a left-sided centre-back in January following Micky van de Ven's injury and have identified Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly as a target.

The Standard say Kelly is set to be the subject of fresh interest from Spurs after attempting to sign him in the summer.

Van de Ven has been a standout player for Ange Postecoglou's men since his move from Wolfsburg but was withdrawn with a serious-looking hamstring injury against Chelsea on Monday.

Regardless of the extent of the issue, the Australian coach is keen to bolster his dwindling options at the back.

Other first choice Cristian Romero is suspended after his red card in the 4-1 defeat, leaving Eric Dier and 18-year-old Ashley Phillips as the only other natural centre-back options.

Bournemouth are braced for an approach for Kelly, 25, who can also play at left-back and would count towards Tottenham's English quota.

The former England Under-21s defender is out of contract at the end of the season and could be available for a cut-price fee.

Spurs defence coach Matt Wells worked with Kelly while he was Scott Parker's assistant at the Cherries and is thought to be an admirer.
