It has been an eventful start to life at Tottenham for Ange Postecoglou

- Recommended Bet: Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals

Tottenham started life under Ange Postecoglou and without talisman Harry Kane with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Brentford last weekend, and the thrills and spills are likely to continue when they host Manchester United.

Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal were on target for a new-look Spurs outfit, who had Richarlison leading the line and Heung-Min Son as captain following Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

A big positive for Spurs was the performance of debutant James Maddison, who shone in his advanced midfield role and grabbed two assists.

Manchester United did get off the mark at the first time of asking but there were less highlights to take from their 1-0 home victory over Wolves, who will feel aggrieved to have left Old Trafford empty-handed.

The last meeting between these sides ended 2-2 at this venue in April and, while there has been plenty of change since that four-goal thriller, it would be a surprise were the goals not to flow again.

Team news

Cristian Romero could be missing for the visit of Manchester United

Spurs must manage without Rodrigo Bentancur, Bryan Gil, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele, while goalkeepers Alfie Whiteman and Fraser Forster are also out.

Meanwhile, Romero is a doubt after being forced off inside 14 minutes against Brentford, which came only three minutes after he had opened the scoring.

United’s new summer signing Rasmus Hojlund is still not ready to make his debut and joins Amad Diallo, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo and Tom Heaton on the sidelines.

The stats

Manchester United have scored at least two goals in each of their last five meetings with Spurs, which includes a 2-2 draw in April.

United are unbeaten in those five meetings with Spurs and have lost only one of the last 10 encounters between the pair.

Both teams have scored in seven of the last nine meetings between the pair and the net has bulged at both ends in each of Postecoglou’s five matches as Tottenham manager, which includes four friendlies.

Following victory over Wolves, the Red Devils have now won their last five Premier League matches.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side have won only three of their last 10 Premier League away games.

Prediction

United are up and running for the season after their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wolves, but the manner of the performance suggests they could be vulnerable against Spurs.

Wolves had won the shot count 23-15 at Old Trafford, generating an xG of 2.14, and were also cruelly denied a penalty in stoppage time.

That suggests, despite drawing 2-2 at Brentford in their opening game on Sunday, that Spurs have enough weapons to cause a lacklustre United plenty of problems.

Both teams have scored in seven of the last nine meetings between the pair and that is a trend that is likely to continue given United’s errant displays on the road last term.
