Rotherham vs Swansea predictions: Struggling duo to serve up a thriller
- Both teams have scored in eight of Rotherham’s nine home league games
- Both teams have scored in Swansea’s last four Championship clashes
- Recommended bet: Both teams to score
Two Championship sides in poor form and in need of a Christmas lift square-up at the New York Stadium on Saturday and Swansea will be hoping the sacking of Michael Duff has the desired effect.
The Swans parted company with Duff after less than six months in charge following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield, which stretched their winless run to five.
The Welsh side head to a relegation-threatened Rotherham bidding to change their fortunes, although the Millers could also do with claiming maximum points.
Rotherham sit second from bottom in the Championship, having failed to win in seven league games, so this represents an excellent opportunity for both as they aim to get back on track.
Team news
Tyler Blackett, Cameron Humphreys, Cafu, Sam Clucas, Shane Ferguson and Andre Green all remain sidelined for hosts Rotherham.
That means the hosts, who are also on the hunt for a new manager, may make minimal changes from last Saturday’s goalless draw at Birmingham.
The Swans are missing Azeem Abdulai, Harrison Ashby, Nathan Wood, Nathanael Ogbeta, Joe Allen, Josh Ginnelly and Mykola Kukharevych for the visit to South Yorkshire.
The stats
Rotherham have won only two of their opening 19 games in the Championship, but they have drawn on seven occasions, which includes their last three at home.
The Millers have, however, lost only two of their nine home league matches this season, which came courtesy of 2-1 defeats to Leicester and Bristol City.
Both teams have scored in eight of their nine home league outings, which includes the last two New York Stadium assignments against promotion hopefuls Ipswich and Leeds.
Swansea have won only one of their last eight league matches and they have suffered back-to-back away defeats, losing 3-2 at Ipswich and 3-1 at Leeds.
Both teams have also netted in Swansea’s last four Championship clashes and the last two meetings between these sides have ended in 1-1 draws.
Prediction
There are too many question marks surrounding both of these managerless teams to be opting for a winner and goals, therefore, may be the way to go.
Rotherham, for all their struggles, have been pretty strong at home with only league leaders Leicester and Bristol City from the nine teams to have tried that have been successful on their visit to the New York Stadium.
Eight of those nine league fixtures have seen both teams score - a 2-0 win over Coventry is the only exception - and this contest may follow that narrative.
Swansea have seen the net bulge at both ends in their last four league games, with them netting twice against second-placed Ipswich and sixth-placed Hull, while also opening the scoring in a 3-1 loss at Leeds.
