It is Sprint Cup Day at Haydock, where the Group One contest over 6f is the feature race on a fantastic card at the Merseyside venue.

The first race is at 1.15pm and will run through to 5.15pm. Here are five horses to follow across the meeting.

LiveScore Five To Follow at Haydock on Saturday

1.15pm — Betfair Exchange Ascendant Stakes (1m — Listed)

Trainer Charlie Appleby is in excellent form at the moment. He is operating at just under a 50% strike rate over the last 14 days. He could have further success at Haydock, starting with the opening race with his two-year-old colt HAFIT.

The son of Dubawi made a winning debut at Newmarket (7f) last month. His breeding suggests he will improve as he steps up in trip. He has just three rivals to beat here, and he can maintain his 100% record.

1.45pm — Betfair Double Daily Rewards Superior Mile Stakes (1m — Group 3)

LORD GLITTERS showed exactly how good he is back in March when he prevailed in the Group One Jebel Hatta at Meydan. He can add more Group success here in a quality of field which is much inferior than he has been running against in 2021.

The talented grey finished second of seven runners on his latest appearance at York (1m1f) in the Group Three Strensall Stakes behind Real World. A repeat of that performance could be enough for him to land the top prize this time.

2.20pm — "My Odds Boost" On Betfair Handicap (1m6f)

Andrew Balding will be hoping Valley Forge can make it three wins on the spin

After back-to-back victories at Ffos Las (1m4f) and York (1m6f), respectively, VALLEY FORGE is bidding to complete a hat-trick in this handicap contest over 1m6f. His latest win came in the Melrose, where he prevailed in a 22-runner field.

Andrew Balding's colt has low mileage on the clock, so he remains open to improvement. He does have to defy a 7lb rise in the ratings, but there is sure to be more to come from him over this distance.

LiveScore Selection: Valley Forge

2.55pm — Betfair Exchange Old Borough Cup Handicap (1m6f)

ALRIGHT SUNSHINE prevailed on his penultimate outing at Hamilton (1m4f) when the first-time visor looked to help him. He then took a big step up in distance to 2m½f at Newcastle for the Northumberland Plate but had to settle for a midfield finish.

Keith Dalgleish's gelding remains off a very workable mark. This 1m6f distance could prove more suitable. Billy Garritty will be able to claim 3lb off his back, which helps his chances.

LiveScore Selection: Alright Sunshine

3.30pm — Betfair Sprint Cup Stakes (6f — Group 1)

Last season STARMAN was one of the leading three-year-old sprinters in Europe. He has shown he has improved once again as he claimed the July Cup at Newmarket earlier this summer.

The four-year-old from Ed Walker's yard almost made it a second successive Group One victory at Deauville (6½f) last time out, but he got caught in the final strides of that race. He is one to beat on his return to the UK as he looks to enhance his reputation further.

LiveScore Selection: Starman
