Friday's card looks another cracker at Newmarket

An evening card at Newmarket helps to kick-start the weekend for racing fans on Friday.

It's a seven-race card from Britain's Flat headquarters, set to be run on 'Good' ground on the July Course.

The action runs from 5.15pm through until 8.35pm and we've selected five horses to follow on the card.

5.15pm - Rich Energy Handicap (1m)

A really competitive start to the evening's racing as 13 runners contest this mile handicap.

Connections of Al Tarmaah would have been disappointed with his handicap bow at Wetherby (7f, good) in April as he was well supported but failed to muster a strong challenge.

He may well improve but he's facing an in-form rival now MOTAWAAFEQ — victorious at this course just seven days ago.

The Wootton Bassett gelding got the job did in good style for claiming rider Frederick Larson that day and, given they escape a penalty for their troubles, this looks like a fine opportunity to follow up.

LiveScore Selection: Motawaafeq

6.20pm - Rich Club With Rich Energy Handicap (7f)

It's already been a good week for the Simon & Ed Crisford yard, with some very promising and progressive winners on the board, and they may well have another in that same mould with the filly RIKNNAH here.

The daughter of Shamardal ran well on her debut here (1m, good) in April and has since won maiden/novice contest at Wolverhampton and Lingfield. She had no worries conceding a penalty in that most recent score 20 days ago, and the runner-up has come out and won since.

This opening mark can prove exploitable for James Doyle's mount.

6.55pm - Rich Energy Powering You Fillies' Handicap (1m2f)

Hat-trick seeking Glint Of An Eye faces a tougher challenge back on turf, having gone up another 5lb for her latest all-weather triumph, and there are lots of dangers lurking now.

Roger Varian's Mashkoorah — absent since October — is one to make a note of on handicap bow, but YORKSHIRE LADY could be the one to focus on here for Mick Appleby.

Last month's York handicap debut didn't go to plan, but there were mitigating factors. That was a better race than this one, and the form is working out well. From an unchanged mark and with Derby-winning rider Adam Kirby taking over this evening, look for this Mukhadram filly to emphasise her potential.

LiveScore Selection: Yorkshire Lady

7.30pm - Rich Energy Two Drinks One Taste Fillies' Handicap (6f)

Another tough fillies' handicap in prospect. Lovely Breeze has been second in her two most recent starts and should be right in the mix, especially if first-time blinkers have a positive effect on the Hugo Palmer runner.

A chance is taken, however on ISHVARA being on a going day for the Robert Cowell yard.

The Dutch Art filly is anything but consistent, but she was a good second over 5f on the Rowley Course here in May, and her subsequent defeat in Listed company at Haydock is easily overlooked.

She tends to perform best in small fields — and she gets that now, with Ray Dawson taking off a handy 3lb.

8.35pm - Rich Energy Powering Premium Handicap (1m2f)

Godolphin's Cape Cross gelding PASSION AND GLORY was a dual winner over this trip at Windsor and Doncaster in his three-year-old (and debut) season in 2019.

He missed all of last year and was well-held this spring in two appearances at Meydan.

However, Saeed bin Suroor's charge dismissed his rivals at Lingfield (1m2f, AW) this month with some disdain and appears 5lb 'well-in' for this assignment with Oisin Murphy on board once more.

This is certainly a more challenging assignment, but the visuals of that recent success suggest he could set for further progress this summer, and he may be the answer in the Newmarket nightcap.

LiveScore Selection: Passion And Glory
