Newcastle striker Callum Wilson could not hide his delight after scoring to help his side thrash Sheffield United 8-0 at Bramall Lane.

The Magpies had eight different scorers against the Blades as they equalled their biggest win of the Premier League era.

Wilson expressed his pleasure with getting on the scoresheet after missing some opportunities in the first half.

He told Sky Sports: "Delighted to get the three points and get the goal.

"Especially having missed a few chances in the first half, I was frustrated at half-time that I hadn't got on the scoresheet.

"Once Kieran [Trippier] put his head up I knew there was no doubt. It was concentration and making sure. I missed a few but this one has got to go in."

The 31-year-old England international has been sharing the striker role with team-mate Alexander Isak and started from the bench when Newcastle faced AC Milan in their long-awaited return to the Champions League.

Following the win, Wilson spoke of dealing with the difficulty of failing to accumulate a run of games in the starting XI.

He said: "Frustrating at times, especially when you have scored.

"You want to get a bit of momentum going but you understand the reasoning and all you can do is respond to that and get the goal when you have the opportunity to."

The result sees Newcastle move up to eighth in the Premier League after winning their second straight game to rebound from a tough run of three losses.
