Newcastle have signed Anthony Gordon from struggling Everton on a long-term deal.

The winger, 21, joins the Magpies for an undisclosed fee — reported to be around the £45million mark — as Eddie Howe looks to continue his side's top-four push.

Gordon missed three days of training this week after growing unsettled at Goodison Park.

Speaking to NUFC TV after completing his switch, Gordon said: "Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me.

"I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me and the club just look like they're heading in the right direction.

"I feel like it's a really big step. People haven't seen what I'm capable of yet. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club's going, I can really excel here."

Toon boss Howe added: "I'm delighted to sign Anthony — he's a top, top talent.

"I'm really excited to work with him, to develop him, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Newcastle shirt."

Gordon joined Everton's academy as an 11-year-old having been released by rivals Liverpool and made his first-team debut in 2017.

The England Under-21s international played 78 times for his hometown club, scoring seven times.

Gordon will be cup-tied when the Toon Army welcome Southampton to St James' Park on Tuesday for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie holding a 1-0 advantage.
