Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah will miss the entirety of the Cricket World Cup after sustaining a serious shoulder injury.

The Green Shirts' 15-player squad for the tournament was named today and Hasan Ali has been drafted in as his replacement.

Shah's absence is a huge blow to Pakistan's chances of winning in India, with chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq labelling the 20-year-old, who has taken 32 wickets in 14 ODIs, the "world's best bowler".

He said: "Unfortunately, the report we have from our doctors, we hear Naseem will be out for a longer time than just the World Cup.

"At this time, he is the world's best bowler in my view.

"It's a loss for Pakistan. We hope he's fit soon."

Pakistan have been boosted by the impending return of fellow paceman Haris Rauf, who is on course to recover from the side strain he suffered at the Asia Cup.

Ul-Haq added: "We had a few injury scares in the recent Asia Cup, but I am glad to share that all the players are fully fit and are eager to perform for their country in the all-important tournament.

"I have received encouraging reports from our medical panel about Haris Rauf.

"He has started to [shadow] bowl at the National Cricket Academy and will be available for selection.

"I have a firm belief that this squad can bring the World Cup trophy to Pakistan and make the whole nation proud with their incredible performances."

Pakistan start their World Cup journey with matches against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, before they go head-to-head with fierce rivals India on October 14.
