MK Dons bounced back from their home defeat to Port Vale last time out with a battling 3-1 victory over struggling Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium.

Goals from Joe Tomlinson, Scott Hogan and Liam Kelly earned Scott Lindsey’s side the win as Morecambe, who pulled one back through Jamie Stott before the break, returned to the foot of League Two.

The Dons were ahead inside just two minutes after Morecambe keeper Stuart Moore brought down Hogan with a reckless challenge and Tomlinson made no mistake from the spot.

The Shrimps almost replied instantly with Adam Lewis forcing Tom McGill into a good save low to his left and Callum Jones seeing a shot well blocked.

But it was the Dons who struck next as Hogan showed his skills by playing the ball through the legs of Rhys Williams and, despite seeing his first shot saved, was well-placed to slot home the rebound.

Joe White and Alex Gilbey were both denied by excellent Moore saves and Morecambe pulled a goal back just before the break with Ben Tollitt’s left-wing cross being headed home by Stott from close range.

Morecambe’s comeback was short-lived however as Kelly added a third for the visitors in the 50th minute with a long-range shot that took a wicked deflection off Williams and looped over the helpless Moore.

Morecambe looked to hit back again with Williams heading over a dangerous Lewis cross at full stretch but the home side could not find a second goal as the Dons took the three points.
