There is history to be made one way or another in Sunday's Women's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, as Manchester United look to win the competition for the first time and Tottenham target their first major trophy.

For both clubs the competition presents them with a terrific opportunity and, with only one place separating the sides in the Women's Super League standings heading into the weekend, it could be a closely-fought contest.

United and Tottenham played out a 2-2 draw in the league in April and punters should expect another tight one at the national stadium this weekend.

Team news

Jayde Riviere is available again for Manchester United, while Gabby George, Emma Watson and Jess Simpson will all miss out.

Celin Bizet has returned from an ankle injury for Tottenham and Spurs are also hoping to have Amy James-Turner available after she missed the trip to Everton.

The stats

Tottenham have strung together a seven-match unbeaten run, including a 2-2 draw with United last month.

United have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches in all competitions, conceding against Manchester City, Everton, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool.

Only seven points separate these teams in the Women's Super League, although that gap could be narrowed to four points if Tottenham win their game in hand over the Red Devils.

Prediction

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in the final of last season's Women's FA Cup and will be desperate to go one better when they return to Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Publicidad

Marc Skinner will hope his team have learned from last year's experience but this season the Red Devils have been a shadow of the team they were in 2022-23.

In last term's WSL, United finished second with 56 points but they are down in fifth spot and the best they can hope for this term is 38 points.

They have the edge in experience heading into this final with the match uncharted territory for Tottenham.

But that does not mean United will roll over their London counterparts, who came close to beating the Manchester club at Leigh Sports Village back in April.

Tottenham led 2-1 against United until the 92nd minute when Maya Le Tissier struck to earn a draw for Skinner's team but Spurs should draw confidence from that performance.

They have gone seven matches unbeaten in all competitions, knocking Manchester City and Leicester out of the Women's FA Cup in the process, and they can avoid defeat in Sunday's final.
