Manchester United vs Bodo/Glimt predictions: Goals galore at Old Trafford
Both teams have scored in seven of United’s last ten matches
Both teams have scored in five of Bodo/Glimt’s last six
Recommended bet: Both teams to score
Ruben Amorim’s era as Manchester United manager started with a 1-1 draw away at Ipswich on Sunday and the Portuguese boss will be keen to put things right in his opening fixture at Old Trafford.
Despite taking the lead after only 81 seconds through Marcus Rashford, United had to settle for a point at Portman Road and better will be expected in Amorim’s opening Europa League assignment with Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.
The Red Devils remain unbeaten in the Europa League but their opening three assignments ended in draws before they got off the mark in a 2-0 victory at home to PAOK.
Bodo/Glimt, meanwhile, have taken seven points from their four European fixtures and wins over Porto and Braga highlights the dangers that they possess.
So Amorim is unlikely to take too many unduly risks and he will be determined to get a first win on the board as United manager as quickly as possible.
Team news
Mason Mount and Luke Shaw both made their returns from injury off the bench at Ipswich on Sunday and are available, along with Kobbie Mainoo and Tyrell Malacia who were also involved in the senior matchday squad.
Summer signing Leny Yoro is back in training and building up his fitness but fellow centre-backs Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined.
Bodo/Glimt will be without Omar Elabdelloaui, Samuel Burakovsky, Daniel Bassi, Gaute Vetti and Syver Skeide for their first ever meeting with United.
The stats
- Manchester United have lost only two of their last 15 matches, although seven of those outings have ended in draws.
- Bodo/Glimt have won only two of their last eight fixtures, drawing three of their last five on the road.
- Both teams have scored in seven of United’s last ten matches while the net has bulged at both ends in five of Bodo/Glimt’s last six.
- The Red Devils have won four of their last five games at Old Trafford.
- Six of Bodo/Glimt's last 11 matches have gone over 3.5 goals.
Prediction
Following Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich, Amorim stressed that United are going to have to "suffer" as he implements his new ideas and that could contribute to a high-scoring affair with Bodo/Glimt.
Given the current personnel at Amorim’s disposal and some teething problems, there may be no quick fix for United and patience is going to be required.
But, at the same time, Amorim will have to find a way to get the Red Devils ticking in the meantime and he will be desperate to get his first victory on the board as manager.
However, United must be wary of the threat Norwegian Eliteserien leaders Bodo/Glimt carry as not only have they won at home to Porto in this season’s Europa League, but they have triumphed away at Braga too.
Both teams have scored in five of the visitors' last six games and, with the same having landed in three of the Red Devils' four Europa League fixtures, it may be the approach for punters to take.
Amorim’s new shape should give United more going forward but it can leave them vulnerable defensively and that is an area where injuries have left them weakened.
