United agree deal with Ajax for Brazil winger Antony
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Ajax to sign Antony in a deal potentially worth £85million.
The Brazil winger’s move is still subject to a medical, personal terms and international clearance.
But Erik ten Hag looks to have landed another top target from his former club having already signed Lisandro Martinez.
Antony scored 24 goals and provided 22 assists in 82 appearances during his time at Ajax, winning two Eredivisie titles with the Dutch giants.
Speaking to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano last weekend, the Manchester-bound star said: "Since February, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face a new challenge.
"During the window months, meetings concluded including a proposal from Ajax for a contract renewal. I made it clear once again I want to leave the club.
"In a meeting with the board I expressed my interest in leaving, this time with a considerable offer on the table.
"Others have already arrived but Ajax always refuses with the argument it only has days to replace [me].
"I’m not asking [for Ajax] to release me, I am asking Ajax to sell me for the highest bid received for a player who plays in the Eredivisie."
Antony, 22, added: "I was very happy in Amsterdam. I won titles at Ajax, made friends and built part of my career, but now I reinforce that I am ready and full of motivation to follow my story and my dreams.
"People need to listen to me and understand that my motivation moves me towards happiness. I need this to continue performing at a high level. Ajax will always be in my heart."
Tyrell Malacia, Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have all arrived at Old Trafford so far this summer as Ten Hag bids to bring back the glory days.
The Red Devils head to Leicester on Thursday looking to make it three wins on the spin after recording back-to-back victories over Liverpool and Southampton.
