Leopardstown hosts a superb eight-race offering on Sunday
Publicidad

Day two of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown is the stellar attraction on Sunday, with a super eight-race card in Ireland boasting four Grade 1 races.

Honeysuckle is among the big names on show, the mare bidding for her third Irish Champion Hurdle win at 3.00pm.

They race from 12.45pm until 4.40pm, with 'yielding' ground forecast at the Dublin circuit.

We have selected five to follow on the card.

1.20pm - Ladbrokes Novice Chase (Grade 1, 2m5f)

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS made quite the first impression here over Christmas on his chasing bow.

Publicidad

He went off in front under Paul Townend, jumped like an old pro to lead his nearest rival home by some 22-lengths, with another 16-lengths to the third.

Both Ain't That A Shame (second) and Floueur (third) have given that form a boost since.

No doubting that stablemate Capodanno and Gordon Elliott's Fury Road are stronger opponents, but they will do well to lower his colours.

LiveScore selection: Galopin Des Champs

1.50pm - Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (Grade 1, 2m1f)

Willie Mullins will be hoping for better from Chacun Pour Soi with Cheltenham in mind

If the Tingle Creek form is repeated, Greaneteen should provide Paul Nicholls with a fully merited win here — given Britain's champion trainer has sent over two runners to contest Grade 1s this weekend in what amount to 'away games'.

Publicidad

However, CHACUN POUR SOI simply wasn't himself at Sandown in December.

This strong travelling, imposing jumper routinely takes lengths from his rivals in the air and he just never had his normal fluency that day, suggesting something surely was ailing him.

He has only been beaten by one horse in four starts over this C&D — all in Grade 1s — and it will take a significant effort to double that number if he is on his game.

LiveScore selection: Chacun Pour Soi

3pm - Chanelle Pharma Irish Champion Hurdle (Grade 1, 2m)

A third Irish Champion Hurdle surely beckons for HONEYSUCKLE now.

It is not so much that she has scared off meaningful opposition as the fact there does not appear to be much around that could threaten her.

Appreciate It might have been one, but he is absent.

Henry De Bromhead's 8YO is a superstar in every way and she and Rachael Blackmore are the box office attractions at Leopardstown on Sunday.

LiveScore selection: Honeysuckle

3.35pm - Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle (Grade 1, 2m)

Sir Gerhard is tipped to conquer a competitive Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle

A fourth Grade 1 contest on the day and SIR GERHARD 'only' won a maiden here at Christmas but he did it in fine style.

Publicidad

He was a classy bumper performer last season and has leading novice hurdles claims going to Cheltenham next month.

His stablemates El Fabiolo, Farout and Statuaire — as well as Gordon Elliott's Three Stripe Life, Gavin Cromwell's My Mate Mozzie and Colonel Mustard for Lorna Fowler — ensure this is much more of a test on paper but he may have all the right answers.

LiveScore selection: Sir Gerhard

4.10pm - Liffey Handicap Hurdle (Grade B, 2m)

A really tough handicap contest, with 28 runners going to post.

Ballyadam and Cask Mate were first and second in the Grade 1 Royal Bond in 2020 and the latter could be on a nice mark for Noel Meade.

One that might cause a shock is IN FROM THE COLD for Mick Mulvany. An experienced Flat performer, he has held a rating in the mid-90s for some time in that code and won on his hurdles bow at Wexford in October.

His two runs since were fair, behind smart winners Saint Felicien and Teahupoo and it is certainly not asking any kind of miracle that he would go well from an opening handicap mark of 132.

LiveScore selection: In From The Cold
