LiveScore Racing Preview: Beverley, September 21, 2021
Beverley hosts an afternoon of Flat racing on Tuesday with eight races taking place at the East Yorkshire layout.
The highlight on the card is a £20k Conditions sprint at 3pm and the ground is forecast to be good-good to firm in places.
We have picked out five horses for you to follow.
1.20pm - Beverley Annual Badgeholders Restricted Novice Stakes (5f)
Karl Burke's Silky Wilkie is proving nothing if not consistent, with runner-up finishes in all four starts to this point.
They have been fairly decisive defeats in all instances and he needs a bit more to get on the scoresheet.
TILLY THE FILLY shaped quite promisingly on debut at York over a half furlong more for Bryan Smart and the daughter of speedster Caravaggio could have a leading say now dropped in trip/class with that run under her belt.
LiveScore selection: Tilly The Filly
2.25pm - Joe McLoughlin 70th Birthday Handicap (7½f)
La Rav (first) and ARRANMORE (second) clashed here last month and perhaps the runner-up can turn it around on these 3lb better terms (beaten a length-and-a-quarter that day) having since occupied second spot again at Carlisle (1m, good to firm) this month.
The four-year-old gelding has won three times since joining David O'Meara back in the spring and has been a beacon of consistency for the yard so far.
He is at home in Class 4 company on quick ground and should once more be in the firing line.
LiveScore selection: Arranmore
3pm - Eddie And Violet Smith Conditions Stakes (5f)
Brando is the one to beat on these terms, getting upwards of 7lb and more from three rivals.
The old stager has run good races this summer in defeat but it's more than two years since he last won and north of five since he tackled this minimum trip last.
Danzeno had Dubai Station and TARBOOSH behind at Nottingham last month.
There was not too much to split them and Paul Midgley's charge is much better off on these terms as he bids to add to his 2019 win in this race after a credible Listed third at Doncaster's St Leger Festival this month already.
LiveScore selection: Tarboosh
4.10pm - Happy Birthday Greatest Husband Martin Spencer Handicap (1m½f)
BRAZEN PRINCE produced a better effort over C&D six days ago than we had seen from him for some time as he finished second.
That was on softer ground than he is likely to find now and, while this is a tougher assignment on paper, it is very open and a first-time visor is deployed by Richard Fahey, who also enlists the excellent Billy Garritty to claim 3lb.
A low-grade contest of this ilk is within reach from what remains a career-low mark of 54.
LiveScore selection: Brazen Prince
5.15pm - Brian And Jason Merrington Memorial Handicap Division 2 (1m2f)
Buford is the form pick in the finale having won at Doncaster last month and then run creditably three days later at Carlisle in third.
He is 3lb higher now and expected to feature prominently.
Plenty of these find it troublesome winning races and so HIGHLIGHT REEL gets the nod.
He won over C&D in June and has generally held his form since, including when second of 16 over track and trip late last month off this mark.
