Latest from the Levy Board

British racing's leaders and the Levy Board have unveiled further details of how the £21.5m being borrowed from the government's Sport Winter Survival Package (SWSP) will be utilised, with £7.5m to be used as prize money.

The same amount will be made available to support racecourses' raceday costs, while the remaining £6.5m is to be held back by the Levy Board to allow for further potential complications for the remainder of this year and 2022.

Racing across Britain is thought to have lost over £400m in revenues during the pandemic and British Horse Racing Authority chief executive Julie Harrington admitting the money being lent to the Levy Board is "vital" to the sport's future.

The government has given the money to the Levy Board rather than make individual payments across the sport and it will be repaid from future returns.

Minister for gambling and lotteries, John Whittingdale, said: "Horse racing is part of our national life. We have stepped in to provide £21.5 million as part of the Sports Survival Package, to help get the sport back on track, secure its future and retain its place on the world stage."

Newmarket return for Oxted

Roger Teal has confirmed that the July Cup will be the next goal for his King's Stand hero Oxted.

A full 29 horses remain in the running at the latest acceptance stage and the five-year-old is amongst their number, having won the race under Cieren Fallon's guidance last year.

Teal is now planning a Newmarket defence with Oxted said to have come out of his Royal Ascot win with distinction and the Lambourn handler is confident his charge can become the first horse since Right Boy in 1958 and 1959 to win back-to-back July Cups.

"All is good. I'm happy with him. He's come out of the race well," said Teal. "The plan is to go for the July Cup again - all roads lead to Newmarket.

"We never lost the faith and it was an impressive performance by him as well, so fair play to him."

Star pair set for Goodwood

Star duo set for Goodwood outing

It looks like all systems go for Subjectivist and Stradivarius' showdown in the Goodwood Cup on July 27 after positive noises from connections on both sides of the rivalry.

Last week's Ascot Gold Cup win saw Subjectivist justify the hype generated by his previous victories in France and Dubai, ending Stradivarius' hopes of emulating Yates as a four-time Gold Cup hero.

John and Thady Gosden's seven-year-old is now being prepped for a shot at revenge at Goodwood where he will face off against Mark Johnston's charge.

Johnston says he is already looking forward to seeing them renew their rivalry, adding that it "means a huge amount" to have a stayer of such class amongst his string.

"Looking back at the Gold Cup, it was a very exciting performance," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "Whichever way you look at it, whether it be the form, the time, the sectional times, the distance he won by, it all points to it being an absolutely top-drawer performance."

Fanshawe confirms Audraya plan

Another rematch at Goodwood could see Love take on Audraya in the Nassau Stakes with both featuring on the list of 29 fillies and mares entered for the race.

Love edged Audraya by three-quarters of a length in last week's Prince of Wales's Stakes and speaking afterwards, the latter's handler James Fanshawe, hinted that a trip to France could be next for the daughter of Wootton Bassett.

Deauville's Prix Jean Romanet had been talked about, having won that race last year. Fanshawe now seems settled on the Nassau Stakes as the five-year-old looks to get her own back on Aidan O'Brien's five-time Group One winner.

He said: "The Prince of Wales's Stakes was her first run of the year, so you are never totally sure what to expect - and the same applied to Love obviously - but I was just really pleased with her performance and the way she has come out of the race.

"She has a couple of other entries beforehand, but the Qatar Nassau Stakes is a really nice race to aim for."
