Welcome back

Ben Chilwell has returned to training with his Chelsea team-mates.

The England wing-back, 25, suffered a serious knee injury when the Blues beat Juventus in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge in November.

He had been in fine form before being sidelined, with four goals in October — three for Chelsea and one for the Three Lions — capping a fine start to the season.

But having trained with some of his club's youth sides in recent weeks, Chilwell stepped up his rehab yesterday by joining Thomas Tuchel's senior squad.

He will not feature against his former club Leicester at the Bridge tomorrow night or Watford on Sunday.

And a summer of hard work lies ahead as he battles to return to full fitness in time for the new season.

Fingers crossed

Jurgen Klopp hopes Joe Gomez will be fit for Liverpool's final Premier League game of the season against Wolves on Sunday.

The defender, 24, was forced off at half-time last night as the title-chasing Reds won 2-1 at Southampton.

But Klopp was optimistic after catching up with Gomez following the comeback victory. He said: "I hope we are lucky. Joe has pain but not too much.

"He got, one time, a real shock to the system, but he is sitting in the dressing room and when I spoke to him he was in a good mood.

"I think we were probably lucky but we have to figure that out."

Scott set for City exit

England ace Jill Scott will leave Manchester City next month

Jill Scott has confirmed she will leave Manchester City when her contract expires at the end of next month.

The England midfielder, 35, has won the Women's Super League, three FA Cups and three League Cups since joining City from Everton in 2013.

With 153 international caps already under her belt, Scott has also been included in the provisional Lionesses squad for this summer's Women's Euro 2022 tournament.

The departing City star said: "I never thought I'd be here saying goodbye to Manchester City, but all good things come to an end.

"Looking back at what we've achieved in terms of trophies and generally as a team, I can't really believe it."

Scott spent the last two seasons out on loan, at former side Everton in 2020-21 and Aston Villa this term.

She added: "I've had so many amazing memories along the way.

"I've had some great opportunities over the last couple of seasons with my loan spells, but I've always missed everyone here and that will definitely be the case again this summer.

"It's been a real journey over the last eight or so years."

Jay-Jay is backing Frankfurt

Jay-Jay Okocha cannot wait to see Eintracht Frankfurt lock horns with Rangers in the Europa League final tonight.

Former Bolton ace Okocha, 48, has fond memories of an enjoyable spell with the German club in the 90s.

The Nigerian said: "I am an Eintracht fan and I know how important it is for the fans because they have waited so long to be able to witness this magic game.

"I’m so happy for the club, the players and the fans. Hopefully, they will do us the favour of winning the final.

"It will be a tough one, but Frankfurt should go and try and dominate the game.

"The first goal is so important, rather than trying to chase the game. They should trust in their ability and go for it.

"I wish Frankfurt the best of luck and I can’t wait to see them celebrate."

Battling to roar again

Steph Houghton is battling to be fit in time for Euro 2022

Steph Houghton is "extremely honoured" to have been included in England's preliminary squad for Women's Euro 2022.

The Manchester City skipper, 34, has not played since January due to injury.

But she was selected as part of Sarina Wiegman's 28-player group yesterday and has until mid-June to prove her fitness.

Speaking to the BBC, Houghton said: "It's been a tough few months and there is still a lot of hard work to go,

"I am extremely honoured. I've been fortunate to have the best people around me and the support of all the England staff to help with my recovery.

"I'm looking forward to the next few weeks, being a part of the camp and seeing where it takes us."

Houghton captained England for eight years but will hand the armband to Arsenal defender Leah Williamson for Euro 2022, which kicks off on July 6 when the Lionesses host Austria.
