Hasselbaink: Lukaku lacked desire

Ex-Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has slammed Romelu Lukaku for his lack of desire in the Blues' 4-2 home defeat to Arsenal.

Lukaku was handed his first Premier League start since February but flattered to deceive on a disappointing night for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

And Hasselbaink, 50, singled out the Belgian forward as one of the biggest disappointments at Stamford Bridge.

The Dutchman said: "Lukaku, you've not had the best of seasons, you get an opportunity — go and show somebody you are the man. Show you really want it. Go and show that desire. I didn't see it.

"I really want him to do well, this team needs a No9. Then you see Kai Havertz come in and he goes in spaces, he wants the ball, he's running left, right and centre. Not everything is coming off but he's trying. I'm not seeing that from Lukaku.

"I'm not saying everything is his fault but he's leading the line, do some more.

"Lukaku, [Andreas] Christensen, [Malang] Sarr and [Marcos] Alonso — they were just not good enough for a Chelsea team that should be challenging for winning the Premier League. I know they can't be No1 any more but you still play for your pride.

"I think Tuchel is very disappointed. I don't think he wants to be too critical of individuals but I think he's very disappointed in certain individuals.

"Maybe he's trying to protect certain individuals but if you look at the game, Chelsea were well under par."

The centre-back received an email outlining a potential attack on the house where he lives with his fiancee and two young children.

Cheshire police sent sniffer dogs to the property and are taking the threat seriously.

The England international has come in for heavy criticism for his form at Old Trafford this term, especially following the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson for Maguire said: "In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home. He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter.

"The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry’s number one priority. He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s fixture as normal and we will not be commenting in any further detail at this time."

United visit Arsenal on Saturday and Maguire is expected to be available for the Premier League clash.

Lampard: Goal role can be Alli’s turning point

Dele Alli played an important part in Everton's equaliser against Leicester

Frank Lampard is hopeful that Dele Alli’s involvement in Everton’s last-gasp equaliser against Leicester can kick-start his career at Goodison Park.

Alli’s cross was eventually converted by Richarlison as the Toffees earned a vital point in their battle to stay in the Premier League.

The ex-Tottenham man came off the bench after 58 minutes, his first action since March 13, and won the ball back in the corner before sending in a low ball.

Lampard said: "We needed a goal and he has trained well. Clearly he has done that in training, and then you get your bit of luck or something happens for you and that happened with Dele.

"He deserves it — he ran into the corner, he bullies someone and gets the ball back into the box and we score off it.

"I was really pleased with that part of it from him and hopefully that can be a big starting point for him.

"I don't think the story was ever going to be simple with Dele. We know the situation he came to us in terms of how the last couple of seasons have looked and the high level he reached for a big period of time at Tottenham.

"Sometimes you have to work and fight through things and we are in that process with him."

Sports stars join Chelsea bid

Lewis Hamilton is part of one of the consortiums looking to buy Chelsea

Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams are part of one of the consortiums bidding to buy Chelsea.

Martin Broughton’s group are one of three looking to purchase the Stamford Bridge outfit and have been backed by seven-time Formula 1 champion Hamilton and 23-time Grand Slam singles tennis champion Williams.

It is understood that the duo have been involved with the process from an early stage.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe is another member of the group looking to take control of the club.

Neither Hamilton — an Arsenal fan — nor Williams would have any say on the football-side of the running of the West London club should former Liverpool chairman Broughton take over.

They face competition from two consortiums led by US businessmen.
