Doncaster to win League Two

Chesterfield, the newly-crowned National League champions, are priced to go on and win League Two this season but a classy and competitive field is lined up against the Spireites.

Play-off failures MK Dons and Doncaster will be itching to make amends, heading a cast including Bradford, Port Vale, Gillingham and many others who will be anticipating a good season.

Chesterfield fancied to cook up title charge

Wrexham narrowly missed out on the League Two title 12 months after winning the National League, but it is a double many have Chesterfield in for.

Paul Cook's Spireites are 13/2 with LiveScore Bet to claim the spoils this season and as Cook himself is a title-winner with three different clubs as a manager, he is the ideal man to get the job done.

Cook, on the face of it, seems happy enough with the squad who did the business for him last term with just one or two tweaks, bringing in veteran defender Chey Dunkley and evergreen striker Paddy Madden.

It is hard to imagine Chesterfield not contending but it is a step up and good sides are up against them.

Dons looking to erase play-off memories

Grant McCann's Doncaster look primed to build on their charge to the play-offs last season

Two of the better challengers may well be MK Dons - 8/1 for the title with LiveScore Bet - and Doncaster, who are 10/1.

Publicidad

The Dons were super consistent last season in getting to the play-offs where they were surprisingly humbled by Crawley. Top scorer Max Dean has gone but Mike Williamson has brought in a raft of new players, including ex-England Under-21 midfielder Tom Carroll and Salford striker Callum Hendry, and they should be up there again.

Doncaster were the polar opposite of consistent last season. They were wretched for over half the term with relegation a real danger before winning 10 in a row at the business end to make the play-offs.

Given the momentum it was a surprise Grant McCann's men then blew it against Crewe in the semi-finals but with Billy Sharp returning to offer support to Joe Ironside, Rovers can challenge from the off this time.

Vale dismayed at last season's collapse

The contenders come thick and fast. The one thing 17/2 shots Gillingham lacked last season was goals so the purchase of Crewe top scorer Elliott Nevitt has to be a step in the right direction.

Relegated Carlisle - 12/1 to win the title with LiveScore Bet - have come down with some money in the bank while Port Vale, early-season pace-setters in League One last season, were devastated to have come down at all and the 9/1 chances will be determined to bounce back.

And then there's ex-Premier League team Bradford, bracing themselves for a sixth straight basement campaign and vowing the purgatory has to end soon. But how soon? And are they worth a nibble at 14/1?

Prediction

League Two looks wide open with no obvious stand-out side and probably a dozen with realistic hopes of landing the big prize.

Doncaster finished last season like a train, looking the best team in the division, and having strengthened again in the summer, and handled well by McCann, they can go in.
