Things are hotting up in the men's singles event at Wimbledon and world number one Jannik Sinner is in action against fifth seed Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
It is an intriguing match-up at the All England Club and Sinner will be eager to justify his billing as top seed after winning the Australian Open at the start of the year and making the semi-finals of the French Open in June.
Sinner is fresh from a straight-sets victory over American Ben Shelton last time out, while Medvedev booked his place in the quarter-finals after a walkover win against Grigor Dimitrov.
It makes for an interesting battle and these are two players who know each other well, having met 11 times on the ATP tour.
The head-to-head is pretty evenly balanced as well with six wins for Medvedev and five for Sinner but the Italian will be keen to justify favouritism in style.
The stats
Medvedev has the edge 6-5 in the head-to-head between these players but his last win over Sinner came in the 2023 Miami Open and he is on a five-match losing streak against the Italian.
Sinner has won all nine of his matches on grass this year and has won 16 of his 17 matches in Grand Slams in 2024.
Medvedev has not won a match in straight sets since his first-round triumph over Aleksandar Kovacevic at the start of the month.
Medvedev had a 1-1 win-loss record on grass this year coming into Wimbledon.
Prediction
Jannik Sinner has been the man to beat on the ATP tour this year and he has carried his ruthless form into Wimbledon.
The world number one has dropped just two sets en route to the quarter-finals, defeating the experienced Matteo Berrettini and 14th seed Shelton in the process.
Tuesday's quarter-final tussle with Medvedev will undoubtedly be his toughest test yet but Sinner can draw confidence from his seasonal success and his recent record against the tournament fifth seed.
Sinner has won 38 of his 41 matches on the ATP tour this season, claiming four titles in the process, including the Australian Open at the start of the year.
And he has maintained his high level on the grass courts, warming up for Wimbledon by taking the Halle Open title last month.
He has barely broken a sweat after four rounds at the All England Club and he is looking to match his best ever run at Wimbledon — a semi-final appearance in 2023.
He can do just that and should do so in style with a straight-sets win for Sinner worthy of a wager.
The head-to-head between these players is tight but Sinner's five wins have come in their last five meetings with Medvedev losing to the Italian at the Australian Open final and in the Miami Open semi-finals earlier this year.
This will be their first grass-court meeting, though, and Sinner can keep his cool to make the last four.
