Replacing Hansi Flick as Germany manager brings with it an extra kind of pressure.

Flick was dismissed after a run of one draw and four defeats from his last five games in charge and leaves a huge opportunity for his successor.

With Euro 2024 set to be staged in the country, we assess the candidates to lead the Germans into a home tournament.

Julian Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann is the obvious candidate for the national team job as the most illustrious German currently out of work.

The 36-year-old was surprisingly sacked by Bayern Munich last March but is still considered one of the brightest coaches on the circuit after his success at Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and in Bavaria.

Whether his detailed tactical instructions could be implemented on the international stage is uncertain but he is still a natural frontrunner.

Oliver Glasner

Oliver Glasner left Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this summer

Another name said to be under consideration is Oliver Glasner, also out of work after departing Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of last season.

The 49-year-old led Wolfsburg into the Champions League and won the Europa League with Eintracht in an impressive coaching career.

Having coached teams outside the elite, Glasner has become used to adjusting his approach based on the opposition and always produces organised sides.

Matthias Sammer

A third option said to be being heavily considered is Matthias Sammer, something of a left-field link considering that he has not had a first-team management job since 2005.

Instead, Sammer has been involved behind the scenes at two of Germany's biggest clubs, operating as sporting director at Bayern Munich before taking on an advisory role with Borussia Dortmund.

The 56-year-old could be considered the safe pair of hands that the national team needs heading into a home summer tournament.

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool have had a solid 2023 under Jurgen Klopp

If there was no move too ambitious, Jurgen Klopp would surely be the first name that the German Football Association would approach for the role.

Klopp has previously indicated that only his loyalty to Liverpool would prevent him from strongly considering the job.

In an interview during the summer, he said: "The job of national coach is and would be a great honour. I can't just leave Liverpool now and say I'll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn't work."

Ralf Rangnick

Ralf Rangnick is the current Austria manager

Prior to his fall from grace at Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick was considered one of the brightest minds in football.

Rangnick is now managing Austria, who are unbeaten in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, and would have plenty to offer the German national team.

The 65-year-old has a strong grip on the best talent in Germany after serving so many years as RB Leipzig's director of football and would implement a high-energy style that can rejuvenate the side.
