Gary O'Neil has praised the "incredible" midfield pair of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes after Wolves' 2-1 victory over Chelsea.

Lemina's second half header put the hosts ahead before Matt Doherty doubled the lead in added time.

Christopher Nkunku did score a late consolation but Wolves held on for a vital three points.

And O'Neill was understandably delighted with his side's efforts, especially in midfield.

He said: "It was an incredible performance from both [Lemina and Gomes].

"Mario, we know is capable of big, big performances.

"Physically he was incredible and he led the team well, making good decisions with the ball. It was a top midfield performance.

"Joao, for a lad his age to put in that sort of performance, it was a big performance.

"Apart from being tackled by [Raheem] Sterling when the whole team were in front of him, his performance was flawless."

Wolves put in a good display for a packed Molineux and O'Neil believes his side deserved the win.

He added: "It was a tough day for us with a call from the doctor this morning around illnesses, and [Craig] Dawson still wasn't feeling 100 per cent, so I had to call up some young lads last minute to make up the squad.

"Going against what Chelsea had, especially late on in the game, I thought it might have been tricky for us once we started to tire and make substitutions.

"But the lads manage to produce another fantastic performance here in front of the home fans and we deserved the win really."
