Walsh cranks up pressure

England midfielder Keira Walsh insists the "pressure is on Australia" in front of a home crowd in their Women's World Cup semi-final.

European champions England are playing in their third consecutive World Cup semi-final, while the Matildas are appearing in the final four for the first time.

The hosts will be roared on by a predominantly home-supporting 81,500 crowd in Sydney but Lionesses lynchpin Walsh believes that brings pressure for their opponents.

Ahead of Wednesday's clash, the 26-year-old said: "That is a different thing to cope with.

"But they are a great team, whether they feel the pressure or not. The way they play, they don't look like they feel it.

"They are very physical and we have to be ready for that. It's just about going in confident and playing on the front foot.

"When you're playing against it and can quieten the crowd, it's a nice feeling. There's positives and negatives to both [sides]. We experienced it against Colombia in the quarter-finals."

Christian Atsu's partner Marie-Claire Rupio says she "hopes his name will never go away", six months on from his tragic death.

The former Newcastle and Ghana midfielder lost his life during the devastating earthquakes in Turkey in February.

Speaking for the first time since the horrific incident, Rupio says she wants Atsu's legacy to live on.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Radio 5 live, she said: "For me, it's very important that his name is still there, especially for the children, that he was known, that he was loved by everybody.

"I just hope that his name will never go away."

Atsu was in Turkey after signing for Hatayspor last September, while his family were still in Newcastle.

Rupio added: "I didn't believe that it could happen in a place [where] he would be. As a human being, you think this can't happen to you or anybody you love.

"I was like 'he's fine and he will call'. But then after a while his sister called and told me that his building had totally collapsed. I was shocked, it was hard to believe."

Real sign a new Kepa

Kepa Arrizabalaga has waved goodbye to Chelsea

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has completed a season-long loan switch to Real Madrid.

The Spanish stopper is the latest departure from Stamford Bridge and arrives in Madrid to replace injured No1 Thibaut Courtois, who suffered an ACL injury in training.

Kepa, 28, is therefore likely to go straight into Carlo Ancelotti's side ahead of reserve custodian Andriy Lunin.

He has had a mixed spell since joining the Blues from Athletic Bilbao in 2018, making 163 appearances.

Summer signing Robert Sanchez started in goal in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool yesterday.

The 13-cap international follows Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason Mount, Edouard Mendy and a host of others out the door during a summer of significant change in West London.

Mings get worse for Villa

Tyrone Mings was stretchered off during Aston Villa's 5-1 loss at Newcastle

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a "significant knee injury" against Newcastle.

The influential defender, 30, was carried off on a stretcher during the Villans' 5-1 defeat at St James' Park on Saturday following a duel with Toon striker Alexander Isak.

England international Mings looked in visible pain at the time and the club have now confirmed the centre-back will require surgery ahead of a "lengthy rehabilitation process".

It deals another blow to Unai Emery, who will also be without attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia for a significant period following a knee injury sustained in training.

Toffees sign Harrison

Everton have completed the loan signing of winger Jack Harrison from Leeds.

The 26-year-old reportedly turned down interest from Aston Villa to spend the season with the Toffees.

Currently out injured, Everton say Harrison will continue his rehabilitation from a minor hip issue before being available for selection in Sean Dyche's squad.

He is the Merseyside club's fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma and Youssef Chermiti.

Harrison scored 21 goals in 107 Premier League appearances during his five-year spell with Leeds.
