Carlo's confidence

Carlo Ancelotti is hopeful that the racist abuse of Vinicius Junior that plagued LaLiga last season is on the way out.

When asked about racism in Spanish football, the Real Madrid manager said: "You cannot live with this problem, you have to try to eliminate it.

"I have to say that, in the first games we played, the atmosphere around Vinicius improved and there was no kind of insult.

"Hopefully it doesn’t happen but there are rules that allow the referee to stop the match. What I do with him in those cases is show him support in moments that are very sad for everyone."

Gonzalo Montiel clinched the World Cup for Argentina last year

Nottingham Forest have signed Argentina international full-back Gonzalo Montiel on loan from Sevilla.

Montiel signs for the Premier League club after a remarkable 2022-23 campaign in which he scored the decisive penalties in both the World Cup and Europa League final.

He has 23 international caps overall and joins Forest on a temporary deal with an option to make the switch permanent.

The 26-year-old said: "I've been watching the Premier League since I was child. I used to watch every game.

"As a player, you want to play in the best league and the Premier League is just that."

Couldn't take any Mour

The winger, a legendary figure at Spurs after his Champions League semi-final hat-trick against Ajax in 2019, only made 19 appearances in 2022-23, scoring one goal.

He has now returned to Brazil, signing for Sao Paulo.

Reflecting on his North London exit, he said: "It was a difficult year for me, where I had few opportunities.

"The team didn't do very well. We failed to achieve the goals we had at the beginning of the season. We failed to qualify for any European competition.

"It wasn't the way I wanted my time at Tottenham to end. A club for which I have a huge affection, where I lived incredible experiences."

Kane inspiration

Evan Ferguson scored 10 goals for Brighton last season

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson says he can understand why his game has been compared to Harry Kane's.

The 18-year-old is considered one of the most exciting young players in the country and admits that the England captain is an inspiration.

Ferguson said: "I take bits out of his [Kane's] game and try to bring them to my game.

"I see why people say that we're a little bit similar."

After the Irish international scored 10 goals for the Seagulls last season, manager Roberto De Zerbi said that he wants to turn him into one of the best strikers in Europe.

And Ferguson believes he is at the best possible club to develop, saying: "There's a way to go but if he [De Zerbi] can see it then you just have to believe him.

"I'll just see how this season goes, a full season, because last season I only came in halfway through. We'll see after that."

Life-changing offer

Gabri Veiga is set for a move to Saudi Arabia

Celta Vigo manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that starlet Gabri Veiga is considering an offer that "will change his and his family's life" from a Saudi Arabian club, reported to be Al-Ahli.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss took charge of the LaLiga side this summer but looks set to lose his prized asset.

He said: "The situation in the market for him is very favourable. The Arab club has come with the money and it's not something you look for but it's what the situation is.

"There is a club that wants to buy and one that would not like to sell but you have financial fair play to consider and looking at the future mid and long-term maybe it is something that you need to evaluate.

"Because of his [Veiga's] age, he will be able to return to play in a competitive league."

The Uruguayan youngster, 21, is down the pecking order at Old Trafford but happy to learn his trade under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.

He said: "Being here, all the players are top players so when you train here, you learn a lot.

"Every session is like being at Harvard because you have the best of the best.

"We have very good players and the competition is there but we have good competition.

"And the manager always says also that the important thing is the squad. Last year, the squad took an important role."
