Premier League strugglers Everton were originally galvanised by their ten-point deduction and pushed away from the relegation zone.

However, a run of two points from the last 15 available, coupled with a resurgence from Luton, has landed them back in the bottom three and they face a tough test when they take on Tottenham in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Team news

Dele Alli, Andre Gomes and Abdoulaye Doucoure are Everton’s confirmed absentees through injury, while Amadou Onana is a major doubt with a knee issue.

Idrissa Gana Gueye could be forced straight back into the starting line-up on his return from the Africa Cup of Nations due to the Toffees' lack of options in midfield, while Seamus Coleman is also a doubt.

For Tottenham, Yves Bissouma and Heung-min Son remain away on international duty, while Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz and Ryan Sessegnon are all missing through injury.

Giovani Lo Celso is a major doubt, but Pape Sarr should feature in some role after returning from AFCON.

The stats

Tottenham’s attacking style means that they have been involved in a number of high-scoring affairs this season, both teams have scored in 16 of their last 19 league games and all of their last four matches have gone over 3.5 goals.

Publicidad

Everton have been involved in back-to-back goalless draws but a repeat of that looks unlikely.

Former Toffees forward Richarlison has been in fine form recently, netting seven goals in his last seven games for Spurs.

Sean Dyche has plenty of work to do to try and guide Everton away from relegation danger.

Prediction

Tottenham’s open style of play can leave them vulnerable, but they have been in impressive form recently despite their captain Heung-min Son being at the Asian Cup, winning five of their last seven in the league.

They beat Everton 2-1 just before Christmas, part of a five-game winless run for the Toffees and, with major injury issues in their midfield, that run may continue.

Spurs have shrugged off the majority of their biggest injury concerns and are enjoying the return of James Maddison to their starting line-up.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are relentless going forward, netting 47 times in 22 games and that is in sharp contrast to their hosts, who have only scored 24 in the same number of matches.

The Toffees have lost six of their 11 home games in the league and look likely to fall to another against a Tottenham forward line that has plenty of goals in it.
