Chloe Kelly bagged a double after climbing off the bench as Manchester City beat Liverpool 4-3 in a thrilling Women's League Cup tie at Prenton Park.

Delighted City boss Gareth Taylor beamed: "We know Chloe is more than capable of that when she opens up and gets her shoulders facing the goal.

"She's a real asset for the team and she will be feeling confident now.

"She's scored a lot of goals this season already, so I think it's good for us to have her in the team."

Filippa Angeldal opened the scoring for City but Gemma Bonner levelled just before half-time.

The contest exploded into life in the second half as Natasha Flint put the Reds in front before Jess Park equalised for City, who took control from that point on.

Kelly cut inside from the right in the 69th minute and curled a stunning effort into the top corner.

The England star, 25, then grabbed her second with nine minutes left to make it two wins from two in Group B for Taylor's side, despite Mia Enderby netting a consolation in stoppage time.

Aston Villa breezed past second tier Sheffield United 5-0 as Rachel Daly scored a 19-minute hat-trick.

The Lionesses ace tucked away a penalty after seven minutes and doubled the advantage soon after when she converted Adriana Leon's cross.

Daly, 31, completed her treble in the 26th minute when she headed home another cross from Leon.
