Chelsea went into the World Cup break with the honeymoon period under Graham Potter having firmly ended and they could be in for more misery when they welcome Bournemouth to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Tuesday.

The Blues enjoyed a nine-match unbeaten run following Potter's appointment as head coach in September, but they have since lost four of their last five games, including three-successive league defeats to Brighton, Arsenal and Newcastle.

By contrast, Bournemouth went into the break on the back of comprehensive victories over Everton in the league and Carabao cup, with those results contributing to interim boss Gary O'Neil being named the permanent head coach at the Vitality Stadium.

Unlike Chelsea, the Cherries have played a competitive match since the World Cup, losing narrowly to Newcastle in the League Cup, but following O'Neil's appointment and the recent takeover of the club, there should be a feel-good factor when they head to Stamford Bridge.

Team news

Chelsea failed to score in their three matches before the break and their attacking options have been hampered further by the season-ending ACL injury suffered by Armando Broja.

The Albania international joins Wesley Fofana, N'Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the treatment table, while Morocco's Hakim Ziyech and Croatia's Mateo Kovacic have been granted more time off following their exploits at the World Cup.

There is better news regarding Mason Mount (calf) and Kepa Arrizabalaga (foot), who could both feature, although only the former is believed to have a chance of starting.

Bournemouth have fitness concerns as well, with goalkeeper Neto and midfielder David Brooks ruled out until the New Year.

The Cherries also have doubts surrounding the availability of Lloyd Kelly, Marcus Tavernier and Jefferson Lerma, with the latter standing the best chance of recovering from his ongoing knee issue.

The stats

Chelsea have been beaten in their last three Premier League games, but they have not lost four successive top-flight fixtures since the days of Ruud Gullit and Gianluca Vialli in 1998.

Publicidad

The good news for the Blues is leaders Arsenal are the only team to have beaten them at Stamford Bridge this season, although that was in their most recent home fixture.

Bournemouth have taken seven points from their last three meetings with Chelsea, a run that includes a 1-0 success on their last visit to Stamford Bridge in December 2019 and a 4-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium in January of that same year.

The Cherries also claimed a 3-0 win at Chelsea in January 2018 and they may feel they have the number of their more illustrious rivals from west London.

Prediction

Potter's balloon appears to have burst at Chelsea and, with several key players set to be missing on Tuesday, it could be another difficult evening for the Blues.

Bournemouth have certainly proven their credentials in recent meetings between the two sides and expectation levels may also have grown following Bill Foley's takeover.

However, one note of caution would be Bournemouth's poor away record this season, as they have won just one of their seven top-flight matches on the road, a 3-2 success at Nottingham Forest in September.

That would suggest the Cherries lack a clinical edge on their travels that may stop them picking up all three points on Tuesday, but they could still prove the value option in the Double Chance market, with the Tie or Bournemouth result available at 13/5 with LiveScore Bet.
