Burnley’s meeting with Tottenham at Turf Moor has been called-off due to adverse weather conditions.

Heavy snow has consistently fallen on the Lancashire town, as much of the United Kingdom continues to feel the full force of Storm Arwen.

Despite the best efforts of the Clarets’ ground staff, there was no let up in the weather and the safety of fans outside the stadium soon became a concern, leaving referee Peter Bankes no choice but to postpone the match.

A statement on Burnley’s official Twitter account said: “Due to concerns with the playing surface and surrounding areas, it’s been deemed that the game can’t go ahead safely.”

The game had been scheduled for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday and many supporters, including those travelling from North London, had already arrived.

Players from both sets of teams were in their respective Turf Moor dressing rooms when the decision was made, a call that Spurs boss Antonio Conte believed was the right one.

He said: "I think in these conditions it's not football.

"I want to play football, I want to have fun, to play and to give emotion.

"I think in this situation it is impossible and there is serious risk for the players to take injury and this is not good."

A new date for the fixture will be arranged in due course.
