Borussia Dortmund put their record as one of the Bundesliga’s two unbeaten sides on the line when they host Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The other side with six points from a possible six — unsurprisingly — is Bayern Munich. Die Roten travel to pointless Bochum on Sunday.

Elsewhere, bottom side Bayer Leverkusen will look to get their season up and running at home to Hoffenheim while RB Leipzig make the trip to fifth-placed Union Berlin.

Game of the week: Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen (Saturday, 2.30pm)

New Dortmund boss Edin Terzic is bidding to become the first manager in the club’s history to win their first 10 league games as Werder Bremen visit.

The former West Ham assistant coach won seven in a row while serving as interim manager in 2020-21 and has extended that impressive record in the new campaign.

Ominously for Ole Werner's outfit, Dortmund have scored in their last 20 Bundesliga games against Bremen. The only club they have a longer scoring streak against is Hannover (23 games between 1967 and 2005).

Bremen are without a Bundesliga win in 12 games (three draws, nine defeats), with their last success coming 528 days ago by kick-off, against Arminia Bielefeld in March 2021.

They will need to stop Youssoufa Moukoko who, at 17 years and 265 days, became the youngest player to score and assist in a Bundesliga fixture when he found the back of the net against Freiburg last weekend.

Bochum vs Bayern Munich (Sunday, 4.30pm)

Bayern Munich teenager Jamal Musiala has already scored three Bundesliga goals this season

Revenge will be on the cards for early leaders Bayern Munich who were humbled in the last meeting between these two when Bochum won 4-2 in February.

However, Bochum have never managed back-to-back Bundesliga wins against the Bavarian giants and only won consecutive home games in 1974 and 1975.

Those results between the two are anomalies, as Bayern have triumphed in 46 of their 70 top-flight meetings with Die Unabsteigbaren.

They therefore have a higher win percentage (66%) and lower loss percentage (13%) than against any other side they have faced at least 60 times in the Bundesliga.

With his goal in the 2-0 win over Wolfsburg last weekend, Bayern sensation Jamal Musiala became the youngest German player to reach 14 top-flight goals (19 years and 169 days) since Jadon Sancho (19 years and 145 days).

Bayern’s 18 efforts on target is a divisional high already while Bochum, in facing the same number, have the second-most porous defence behind Schalke (20).

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hertha Berlin (Friday, 7.30pm)

Albeit temporarily, Borussia Monchengladbach can go top of the Bundesliga with a win over Hertha Berlin on Friday evening.

Gladbach are enjoying a run of six games without defeat (three wins, three draws) in the league. If they extend their unbeaten start it will be the first time in four years they have avoided defeat in their first three games.

Since Hertha were promoted back to the top flight in 2013-14, they have lost seven of their nine away trips to Borussia-Park. This is their joint-worst away record — along with visits to Bayern's Allianz Arena — in that period.

The Berliners will need to watch out for Gladbach’s corner prowess. Daniel Farke’s side have already struck three times from corners this term — a league high.

They only managed four goals from corner kicks in the whole of the second half of last season.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Hoffenheim (Saturday, 2.30pm)

Patrik Schick is yet to score this season but has an excellent record against Hoffenheim

They might be propping up the Bundesliga but the omens are good for Bayer Leverkusen as they prepare to face Hoffenheim.

Publicidad

With 16 wins from 28 games against the visitors, Leverkusen have averaged 1.93 points in meetings between the two sides.

The only team Gerardo Seoane's men have a better ratio against is Augsburg (2.36 points).

Conversely, Hoffenheim have only been beaten more frequently by Bayern Munich (18 times).

But Leverkusen are in disarray and this is just the second time they have entered a matchday at the foot of the table since the introduction of three points for a win.

Striker Patrik Schick relishes facing Hoffenheim and has scored four times against them in Bundesliga fixtures — assisting a further three — making them his favourite opponent.

Union Berlin vs RB Leipzig (Saturday, 5.30pm)

Chelsea flop Timo Werner scored just four Premier League goals in 2021-22 but has already hit the target for RB Leipzig this term

Union Berlin have had the upper hand in this fixture lately, winning each of their last three league meetings with RB Leipzig.

Prior to that, the Red Bulls had won three straight matches between the two sides.

If Union win for a fourth consecutive match, Leipzig will become just the second opponents after FC Cologne they have achieved that feat against.

With four points on the board, this is Union’s best start to a Bundesliga season. They have never managed to pick up more than two points from their first two games.

Publicidad

If they are to build on that start, stopping returning Leipzig striker Timo Werner will be imperative.

The Chelsea flop netted on his first game back, 777 days after his last game and goal for Leipzig against Augsburg.

He has three goals in two outings against Union, averaging a goal every 52 minutes — fewer than against any other top-flight opponent.

The weekend’s other games

Augsburg vs Mainz (Saturday, 2.30pm

Stuttgart vs Freiburg (Saturday, 2.30pm

Wolfsburg vs Schalke (Saturday, 2.30pm

Eintracht Frankfurt vs FC Cologne (Sunday, 2.30pm)
