Ajax 0-4 Feyenoord: Gimenez completes hat-trick in delayed match
Santiago Gimenez completed his hat-trick to guide Feyenoord to victory over Ajax in a clash that resumed today having been halted at the weekend.
The first De Klassieker of the season was abandoned just 56 minutes into the contest on Sunday as Ajax fans threw flares and fireworks on the pitch at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The hosts already trailed 3-0 at that point as their poor start to the new campaign continued, with the fixture having already been held up on two occasions as angry home supporters threw projectiles on to the playing surface.
A Gimenez brace and a third from Igor Paixao had Feyenoord firmly in control when a third offence caused the match to be abandoned.
Police then used tear gas to disperse riots outside the stadium as the fixture was hastily rearranged to be completed this afternoon.
Feyenoord, who were not allowed fans into the game on Sunday, went on to secure a 4-0 win as Gimenez struck again in an empty stadium.
The result leaves Ajax languishing 14th in the Eredivisie, having won just one of their opening five fixtures.
They are under increasing pressure after an underwhelming period both on and off the field.
Sales of star players Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus to West Ham frustrated supporters along with a poor start to the season which has seen them pick up just five points from their opening five matches.
Ajax are next due in action against RKC Waalwijk on Saturday before a trip to AEK Athens next Thursday in their second Europa League group stage game.
