Transfer Talk: Benitez eyes triple Toffees swoop
Everton are set to make three signings as the Rafael Benitez revolution beings on Merseyside.
Generally an unpopular appointment at Goodison Park, Benitez is looking to add Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic to his Toffees squad, according to The Telegraph.
Gray, 25, only swapped Leicester for Bayer Leverkusen in January — yet looks set to complete a £1.5million switch back to the Premier League.
Highly-rated as a youngster, the winger is yet to fulfil his potential despite making 133 top-flight appearances for the Foxes.
And despite netting once and setting up a further two goals for Bayer, his foray into German football looks set to be a brief one.
While Everton will spend cash on Gray, Townsend and Begovic would both be free transfers.
Townsend, now 30, left Crystal Palace at the end of last season and his quest for a new club looks set to land him at Goodison Park.
It is thought that Benitez is desperate to add more width to his squad and the former Spurs winger will sign a one-year deal.
Veteran Begovic will join as back-up to No1 Jordan Pickford, who looked back to his best for England at Euro 2020.
Roma loanee Robin Olsen performed the same role last year but has returned to his parent club this summer.
Chelsea eye Coman swap
Kingsley Coman has been constantly linked with a Premier League move this window –—now a swap deal could be on the cards.
French sport daily L’Equipe report that Chelsea are keen to engineer a switch with Bayern Munich that would see Callum Hudson-Odoi go the opposite direction.
Hudson-Odoi, 20, is not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans and the Blues hope Bayern’s historic interest in the England winger will tempt them into doing a deal.
On the other hand, Chelsea’s German boss has heaped praise on Coman in the past and would love to add him to his squad.
Coman, 25, has two years left on his deal at the Allianz Arena but talks over a new contract have reportedly ground to a halt in recent weeks.
Incoming Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann does not want to let the French international go, yet his hand may be forced with the Germans needing to raise some cash.
However, that issue may make any swap deal hard for Chelsea to pull off.
