Tranmere picked up what could be a valuable point in their battle to avoid relegation from League Two following a goalless draw with Fleetwood at Prenton Park.

The home side had the best chance to open the scoring after 19 minutes when Kristian Dennis’ close-range effort was blocked by Town goalkeeper Jay Lynch after some nice work from Omari Patrick.

At the other end, Louis Marsh found himself with only Luke McGee to beat but slipped his shot just wide of the post from a tight angle.

In a half lacking in meaningful chances, Matty Virtue saw his a drive blocked for Fleetwood, while Patrick’s optimistic effort failed to trouble Lynch as the sides went in goalless at the interval.

The Cod Army were almost ahead five minutes after the break when Ryan Graydon took the ball around McGee, but Lee O’Connor made a vital tackle with the goal at his mercy.

Rovers went in search of a winner in the closing stages that would have put some daylight between them and the relegation zone, but despite opportunities falling to Josh Davison and Sol Solomon, the points were shared.
