Ruben Amorim will shortly be leaving Sporting for Manchester United

- Ruben Amorim takes charge of Sporting for the last time at home
- Manchester City are enduring their worst run for over a year
- Recommended bet:
Sporting or tie - double chance

Sporting will be hoping to give Ruben Amorim a fitting finish in his home finale when they host Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Amorim has two games left in charge of Sporting before he takes the reins at Premier League giants Manchester United, against City in Europe and then the trip to Sporting Braga.

The 39-year-old Portuguese will be hoping for a positive result at Estadio Jose Alvalade and there is arguably not a better time to face the Citizens, who have lost their last two matches.

Team news

Goncalo Inacio was forced off at half-time in Sporting's win over Estrela with a muscle issue and will need to be assessed, while Eduardo Quaresma is expected to miss a sixth game in a row due to injury.

Nuno Santos is a long-term absentee as he recovers from a knee problem.

City will be without John Stones and Ruben Dias, who are both expected back after the next international break, while Jack Grealish also remains sidelined.

Oscar Bobb has been pencilled in for a comeback in January or February and Rodri is out for the season.

The stats

Sporting have enjoyed a perfect start to the Primeira Liga season, winning all 10 matches and scoring an impressive 35 goals during this period.

The Lions have won all seven home games in all competitions, netting 21 goals and conceding just three times.

Viktor Gyokeres has scored 18 goals across the league and Europe this season, four more than City star Erling Haaland.

City have lost their last two outings against Tottenham and Bournemouth, both away from home.

This is the first time the Citizens have lost two matches in a row since September 2023.

Prediction

City are going through a tricky patch following two defeats in a row and they are missing some key defensive players for this trip to Portugal, with Ruben Dias sidelined and John Stones expected to miss out again.

The Citizens have looked shaky at the back on the road this season, keeping just one clean sheet from their last six away assignments and they may struggle to contain a free-scoring Sporting side.

Amorim's troops have scored 35 times in the league, while also netting five goals in the Champions League, and the home crowd will be spurring on the team in what should be an emotionally charged contest.

But you can never write off City, who still have plenty of quality to choose from and the safer play here looks to be siding with Sporting to get the win or draw.
