Sheffield Wednesday vs Millwall predictions: Lions to secure a draw
- Millwall are winless in their last five games
- Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in their last seven home matches against Millwall
- Recommended bet: Draw
Millwall’s new head coach Joe Edwards could not have asked for a better opening fixture as his side travel to Championship basement boys Sheffield Wednesday for a Saturday afternoon showdown.
However, Wednesday have recently appointed a new boss themselves in the form of Danny Rohl, who will be looking to make it two home wins out of two in his latest role.
With both managers looking to hit the ground running, a close affair could unfold at Hillsborough with the spoils being shared after 90 minutes.
Team news
Sheffield Wednesday have been boosted by the news that captain Barry Bannan has had his ban overturned after being wrongfully dismissed against Bristol City. Josh Windass is unlikely to feature after suffering a muscle injury prior to the game against the Robins.
Millwall have first-choice keeper Matija Sarkic out, meaning Bartosz Bialkowski will deputise in goal for the visitors, while experienced full-back Joe Bryan is also sidelined.
Duncan Watmore is a doubt, but could feature from the bench.
The stats
Millwall are winless in their last five games.
Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in their last seven home matches against the Lions, while four of Millwall’s last six away games have finished as draws.
Wednesday have avoided defeated in three of their last four games at Hillsborough and three of the last five meetings between these sides have finished goalless.
Prediction
Millwall, whose aim ahead of the season would have been to make the play-offs, as they narrowly missed out on them last term, have been on a torrid run and have failed to win any of their previous five matches, so new boss Edwards will have his work cut out.
On paper, a trip to Sheffield would seem a favourable fixture for the new head coach, but Wednesday will be keen to make life difficult for their visitors, just as they did when beating Rotherham 2-0 in their last home match.
The hosts also have history on their side too, being unbeaten in their last seven home matches against Millwall and only losing once in their last three games on their own patch.
Three of the last five meetings between these sides have finished 0-0 and a similarly tetchy affair could unfold on Saturday, with the coaches on both sides still finding their feet in their new roles.
The Owls were unlucky at Bristol City last weekend and might have taken at least a point had Bannan not been wrongfully sent off in the 32nd minute, which shows they are raising their level under Rohl’s leadership.
Millwall have drawn four of their last six away matches and expect the same to happen at Hillsborough against an improving Wednesday.
