Krzysztof Piatek's stoppage-time penalty denied Scotland a seventh consecutive win as they drew 1-1 with Poland at Hampden Park.

The hosts looked more dangerous for large stretches of the game, managing six shots on target and preventing their opponents from a single one until the 65th minute.

Steve Clarke's side took a deserved lead three minutes later when Kieran Tierney deftly headed John McGinn's free-kick past Lukasz Skorupski from close range.

However, Piatek dusted himself off to net a 94th-minute equaliser from the spot and secure a draw after Grant Hanley upended him in the box.

The Poles rested star striker Robert Lewandowski, who spent the evening watching on from the bench, ahead of their World Cup play-off final against Sweden on Tuesday.

Scotland head to Austria for a friendly the same night and Clarke has plenty to positives to take with him into next week.

He said: "It was a good game for us, really competitive as we thought it would be. [There was] a lot to be pleased about.

"The penalty decision for me is a penalty decision for a friendly game. It was soft. But it keeps the unbeaten run going.

"We’d have loved to have gone seven wins in a row, there was a chance for another clean sheet, we didn’t look like conceding, we had good control of the game.

"The penalty decision puts a little downer on it but we had a lot of good work tonight."

Clarke also praised Everton defender Nathan Patterson, who was the man of the match.

He said: "Nathan Patterson was good but I knew he would be because he’s working with good Premier League level players at Everton.

"If he’s training hard and working well, he’s always got minutes in his legs.

"I took him off, saw him stretching, and I want some more minutes out of him on Tuesday night."

Scotland now travel to Austria for a friendly on Tuesday evening while the Poles face Sweden in their World Cup play-off final on the same night.
