Sarina Wiegman has signed a contract extension to continue as England manager through to the 2027 Women's World Cup.

Wiegman, 54, led the Lionesses to their first ever international trophy at Euro 2022 before reaching the World Cup final last summer, which they narrowly lost to Spain.

The new deal will see the Dutch coach oversee the defence of the European title at Euro 2025 in Switzerland, the 2025-26 Nations League and the World Cup the following year.

She said: "I am so happy to have the chance to lead England through to 2027 after an incredible two-and-a-half years.

"Looking forward, we have unfinished business and I know we are capable of even more, although nothing will come easy.

"Our game is becoming so competitive at the top level. I relish that opportunity and can't wait to start the Euro qualifiers, followed by the World Cup."

The new deal comes after being voted the Best Women's Coach for the fourth time at FIFA's awards ceremony in London last night, with stopper Mary Earps also crowned Best Women's Goalkeeper.

Wiegman also has victory in the 2023 Finalissima — a trophy competed between the European and South American champions — in her list of successes since her appointment in September 2021.

The Lionesses are next in action in February with two international fixtures overseas, with details of opponents and venues to be confirmed soon.

Wiegman will then prepare her side for their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign, which kicks off in April.

FA CEO Mark Bullingham added: "We are thrilled Sarina has agreed to extend her time with us as we head into another significant period of international football.

"She has achieved so much through her outstanding work as a coach and leader and there is more to come.

"The aim with our England teams is to be a consistent competitive force in major tournaments and Sarina has helped us achieve that — building on what had been several years of positive progress."
