Gillingham eased any potential Sky Bet League Two relegation concerns with a welcome 1-0 win over Morecambe at Priestfield.

The Kent side registered their first win in 14 outings thanks to Robbie McKenzie, who got a crucial touch inside the box with 10 minutes left to divert a close-range effort beyond Harry Burgoyne.

It was the hosts who commanded proceedings throughout and Morecambe were grateful to their goalkeeper, who made a couple of fine saves to maintain parity.

Armani Little had Gills’ first chance of the game, his drilled left-footed effort well gathered before Elliott Nevitt missed the target with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

Joe Gbode came closest to breaking the deadlock, a blocked shot falling into his path only for him to fail to find the target.

The forward saw another effort saved before Max Ehmer went within inches of taking the lead when his attempt into the far corner was struck wide.

The hosts finally made their pressure count in the 79th minute when a shot from the edge of the box was drilled into the area and McKenzie got the final touch to divert an effort home.
