Salisbury's seven-race card is our focus on Wednesday
Salisbury's seven-race card is our focus on Wednesday

The first of two days of quality racing at Salisbury on Wednesday afternoon is headlined by the Listed Upavon Fillies' Stakes at 4.15pm over a mile-and-a-quarter.

That is part of a seven-race card from 1.55pm through until 5.25pm with conditions set to be good-good to soft in places at the Wiltshire venue located in the shadows of nearby Stonehenge.

And we have picked out five horses for you to follow.

1.55pm - Byerley Stud British EBF Novice Stakes (6f)

Poet made a fairly decent start to his career when fourth at Windsor (6f, good to firm) recently — though the form has not been done any favours by those that have run since — and should progress but newcomer MONITOR is one to note closely for the Richard Hannon team.

He cost £36,000 as a yearling and makes sound appeal on paper.

Alongside War In Heaven and Ikhtiraaq, he is one that should go well in a race the newcomers might dominate.

2.30pm - Byerley Stud British EBF Novice Stakes (6f)

Trainer Martyn Meade will be hoping to kick-start a productive afternoon at Salisbury by watching BUOYANT open his account at the third time of asking.

The Awtaad colt went close on debut at Windsor (6f, soft) at the start of July and then finished second behind the exciting Ehraz at Ascot next time — almost five lengths clear of the remainder.

With further progress likely and Ryan Moore on board, this looks a good opening for him.

3.05pm - Venture Security Handicap (5f)

Under Curfew is 4-4 this season already and won well at Chepstow last month.

A 4lb rise is not prohibitive but, that said, there are dome dangers lurking.

Among them is DELEGATE THE LORD, who made a decent start for his new trainer when second at Bath (5½f, form) last month on return from 310 days out.

That run came behind a progressive 3YO that has won four times this season — including the next start from 9lb higher— and Delegate The Lord does have form on good to soft ground previously.

4.15pm - British Stallion Studs EBF Upavon Fillies' Stakes (Fillies' & Mares' Listed, 1m2f)

Technique will hope to convert her good recent form into a win

The feature race on the card and these nine contenders will do battle for a healthy £30,000 payday.

Gloria Mundi is unexposed for the Gosdens and can improve but TECHNIQUE has the strongest claims on form for Martyn Meade.

Victorious at Wolverhampton in January on debut, she contested the likes of The Oaks at Epsom and Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood in four runs since almost winning a Listed Epsom contest over this distance in April.

After a good showing last time in a Group 1, she can bag this prize as red-hot champion jockey Oisin Murphy rides for the first time.

LiveScore Selection: Technique

4.50pm - George Smith Horseboxes Confined Handicap (1m2f)

An open handicap in prospect here and one in which SARATOGA GOLD can give a good account for Charlie Hills and Kieran Shoemark.

The Mayson colt won over this trip on the all-weather at Lingfield in November, which was his second start in a handicap.

After a break, he was disappointing at Nottingham on his comeback in May on heavy ground but has shaped better since at Sandown (1m2f, good to soft) and could have more to offer before long as he is eased in grade.

LiveScore Selection: Saratoga Gold
