Newbury racecourse is the focus of our Friday preview

There is an excellent afternoon of racing from Newbury to look forward to on Friday.

Headlined by the Listed St Hugh's Stakes at 3.20pm, some very competitive handicaps also feature on the eight-race card.

Running from 1.07pm until 5.05pm, with the going set to be good, we have picked five horses for you to follow.

1.40pm - BetVictor EBF Maiden Stakes Division 1 (7f)

This is almost certainly a maiden worth catching.

John and Thady Gosden saddle Royal runner Park Street, a son of New Approach that made a very pleasing start to his career when third at Doncaster recently.

He has every reason to be eyeing progress now, but is potentially running into a smart newcomer in ALVEDISTON, from the William Haggas team.

The New Bay colt cost 135,000 gns as a foal and is holding multiple Group 1 entries, including the Dewhurst. The Newmarket handler has had plenty of 2YO winners and support here would be noted.

LiveScore Selection: Alvediston

2.45pm - Download The BetVictor App Handicap (7f)

Trainer Roger Charlton will be confident Siyata can make it two wins from two at Newbury on Friday
Trainer Roger Charlton will be confident Siyata can make it two wins from two at Newbury on Friday

A competitive 7f handicap on paper but it is hard not to be drawn towards the claims of SIYATA for trainer Roger Charlton in the Juddmonte colours.

She appeared to be in trouble on handicap bow at Ffos Las (7½f, good to firm) last month as she was trapped on the running rail and stone last with a furlong and a half to run.

Oisin Murphy eventually pulled wide to challenge and his filly responded generously to come and score a shady cosily.

She is only 2lb higher here and almost certainly has more progress to come under the champion jockey.

LiveScore Selection: Siyata

3.20pm - BetVictor St Hugh's Stakes (Fillies' Listed, 5f)

A real cracker in prospect here for the feature race, with a field of 19 declared in the St Hugh's over 5f.

Flotus has not gone on from an impressive debut success at Goodwood (6f, soft) in May, though both subsequent runs have been in Group races.

It is still early days for her and dropping in trip may help.

Cotai Beauty, Delmona and Amanda Hug'n'kiss are all shortlisted but ATTAGIRL maybe was not suited by a stiff 6f at Ascot in a Group 3 last time.

And the speedy nature of her prior work bodes well for this drop in distance Kal Burke's filly is a contender in a strong field.

LiveScore Selection: Attagirl

3.55pm - Bet 10 Get 40 For New Customers Nursery (5f)

SUPER CUB has run well in all three starts so far and opened his account last month in a Ripon maiden over 5f on good ground.

He was brought wide by Gavin Ashton to make his challenge and ultimately appeared to get the job done with something to spare.

The form has a fair look about it and an opening mark of 78 is negotiable with improvement likely again and the Roger Varian team in flying form of late.

LiveScore Selection: Super Cub

4.30pm - Christopher Smith Associates Handicap (1m)

Top Secret followed a determined Ascot win (7f, good) last month with an excellent second at Newmarket over the same trip and should have a say again.

He is 4lb higher now and tackling this distance for the first time.

BAKERSBOY was second at Haydock last week over this distance on ground that maybe was softer than ideal.

Tom Dascombe's charge is off an unchanged mark here and has a combination of first-time cheekpieces and Tom Marquand in the plate for the first time as he seeks to shed the maiden tag.

LiveScore Selection: Bakersboy
