Haydock Park hosts seven races on Sunday
Haydock Park hosts seven races on Sunday

This is the second of the Sunday Series racing initiative that will see terrestrial racing coverage from British tracks across the summer months.

It is the turn of Haydock Park this weekend, with a seven-race card from the Merseyside venue beginning at 3.55pm and concluding at 6.40pm.

We have picked out five to follow, with ground conditions set to be soft.

3.55pm - Sky Bet Sunday Apprentice Training Series Handicap (5f)

Under Curfew and Mollie Phillips are in search of a fabulous five-timer and cannot be crossed off having gone up 4lb for their latest win.

But SOUND OF IONA might be in a position to halt their progress now.

Jim Goldie's mare is on a nice mark and has been knocking on the door of late, while the 7lb claim of Sophie Clements is useful in this apprentice event.

LiveScore Selection: Sound Of Iona

4.25pm - Sky Bet Sunday Series Sprint Handicap (6f)

A strike rate of 1-26 is not the most appealing but that is probably not an entirely fair reflection on TRUE MASON, who often runs well in defeat.

This is his first full season with trainer Phillip Makin and he has had good runs at Doncaster, here and York recently.

He has been eased a further 2lb by the handicapper and sports a first-time hood now and is one to have an interest in as he should strike again soon.

LiveScore Selection: True Mason

5.20pm - Sky Bet Sunday Series Nursery (7f)

Rebecca Menzies will be expecting big things from Miss Calculation on slower ground
Rebecca Menzies will be expecting big things from Miss Calculation on slower ground

The Rebecca Menzies-trained MISS CALCULATION made a bright start to her career when scoring on heavy ground at Doncaster over 6f at the beginning of last month.

She was rather pitched in deep next time Ascot in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Keeneland Stakes on much faster ground.

It did not happen for her there but she now heads into nurseries off a mark of 76 and, back on slower ground, can build on that initial promise shown on Town Moor.

LiveScore Selection: Miss Calculation

5.45pm - Sky Bet Sunday Series Fillies' Handicap (1m)

The soft ground is a likely contributor in the fact three of the declared runners for this Fillies' mile contest have already been scratched.

That can further enhance the claims of DEEP SIGH for David Simcock's team.

The Muhaarar filly showed the benefits of experience when rallying to win at Doncaster (1m, heavy) last month and will relish conditions here, while Saffie Osborne's claim more than offsets the ratings-rise she encounters for that slender win.

LiveScore Selection: Deep Sigh

6.40pm - Sky Bet Sunday Series Stayers Handicap (2m)

The longest race of the afternoon rounds off the card and it is one where CORMIER should put his stamina to good use for Brian Ellison and Ben Robinson.

He is a dual hurdles winner at two miles and has won his two most recent turf Flat starts at Pontefract and York over 1m4f.

An all-weather disappointment recently at Newcastle is easily overlooked as he has rarely looked at home on the synthetics.

He is just 4lb above his last win-mark and can outshine recent course winner Noonday Gun in the Haydock finale.

LiveScore Selection: Cormier
