LiveScore Racing Preview: Glorious Goodwood, July 31, 2021
It is the Glorious Goodwood finale on Saturday afternoon — the culmination of five superb days of racing on the famous Sussex Downs.
The action begins at the slightly earlier time of 1.20pm and the seven-race card concludes at 4.45pm.
The Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes and the Unibet Stewards' Cup are the feature races and have selected five horses for you to follow.
1.20pm - Thames Materials Handicap (7f)
William Haggas saw a potential superstar win here on Friday with Baaeed and the handler will have high hopes that SPIRIT OF BERMUDA can bag the opener on day five.
The filly has flourished dropped back to 7f, recording wins at Leicester and Newmarket.
That most recent success is already working out well and, as a former course winner, she is fancied to give a beating to the boys now.
LiveScore Selection: Spirit Of Bermuda
2.30pm - Summer Handicap (1m6f)
Bottom-weight Prince Alex went close over C&D behind re-opposing Nuits St Georges (won again since) in May and has a chance starting out for new trainer Michael Bell if rebounding from a lesser run at Newmarket.
But RHYTHMIC INTENT was in super form this time last year and arrives into this having gone close over 1m2f at Sandown four weeks ago.
This increased distance is right up his alley and Jim Crowley — in such good form here on Friday — is booked to ride for the first time.
LiveScore Selection: Rhythmic Intent
3.05pm - Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Fillies' And Mares' Group 2, 1m6f)
Hardwicke Stakes scorer WONDERFUL TONIGHT is hard to oppose in this Group 2.
She was a dual winner at the top level as a 3YO, including over this trip on soft ground in France, and looked as good as ever in that Royal Ascot comeback.
The form has been handsomely advertised since, with four of the beaten horses landing Group-race wins on their next starts.
Despite her penalty, David Menuisier's charge is the one they all have to fear.
LiveScore Selection: Wonderful Tonight
3.40pm - Unibet Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap, 6f)
A line-up of 28 for the Stewards' Cup and it is a minefield.
The likes of Fresh and Hurricane Ivor have advertised their claims already and must be on any shortlists.
One that is less obvious is LAMPANG for Tim Easterby. He was behind Fresh in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot but the draw was unkind there and his efforts either side of that have been promising.
The Dandy Man colt is capable of better still at 4YO and is well-drawn for this tough challenge.
LiveScore Selection: Lampang
4.10pm - British European Breeders Fund EBF Maiden Stakes (7f)
Legendary rider Richard Hughes enjoyed his first Glorious Goodwood winner as a trainer on Friday and he might not have long to wait for another.
RING OF BEARA cost 200,000 gns as a yearling and makes plenty appeal on paper ahead of this maiden.
While the likes of Tartan Chief are feared, Ryan Moore's presence is a big positive — he's 2-5 riding for his old weighing room colleague this year.
LiveScore Selection: Ring Of Beara
